Yes it's coming. And here we'll post comments.

But before it gets here I need to ask a question.

Did we wish to MST the original(BG) or the sequel(BG2)? If the original do we wish to start at the beginning or where the other group left off?

That should be all the questions for the moment. No, I didn't forget about this (completely), and yes, I would still look forward to it.

Well I guess another question should be asked. Who's first?

I'll participate-heck, I'd be happy to start. However, we'd need someone with a copy of whichever book we're doing sending the segments to each person as their round comes up (I didn't bother bringing my copies with me to college).

I have a copy of the books(the first two. Never was able to get the ToB.)

Anyways I can do at least some of the typing up. If someone has the book and can type up their own parts it'd make it easier on me.

Well, I can copy the book text featured here, which is the main inspiration for this, and I'd frankly be happy to start over with the BG1 book from the beginning, but I'll be sure to participate wherever we begin. And you don't want to get the ToB book. Imoen's love interest is Melissan.

So I heard. It is written by someone else...

However Immy is still going out with the female villains... :(

And mind you, the word "Imoen" didn't appear once in the BG1 book... Imoen did nothing to warrant such a fate as to be in the BG2 and ToB books. Loviatar was having a field day, I think.

Aye. Anyways, I'm thinking it would be best to keep comments (ooh that line was grisly, but good pun, and such) to this thread and let the other thread keep the story. If you, Temp(:D) want to do the first chapter you most certainly can. I'm going to put up an intro post, which if I'm feeling jolly and helpful may have links to chapter beginnings. Maybe.

And probably a PG13 rating shown, for danger of overwhelming sorrow at the butchering of characters, the righteous anger, the terrifying love scenes, and a fair fine bite of gore.

Nah, I think the real fun of the MST is by integrating the characters' responses to each line of the story as it happens. For example, the first couple of lines and my MST-ing it:

The blades came together so hard they threw out a blue-white spark bright enough to burn its gentle arc into Abdel's vision.

Darian: You mean to tell me we're jumping into a scene where everyone's armed with shocking burst weapons?
Xarana: Has to be. Ordinary metal doesn't work like that.

The impact sent a heavy shudder through the heavy blade of his broadsword, but he ignored it and pushed back in the direction of the attack

Alexandria: Idiot. If your sword's under enough tension that it's shuddering when it hits another sword, the damn thing is probably going to break.
Xarana: The laws of physics seem to be suspended for today.
Darian: What on Toril are physics?
Xarana: Oops. I don't think I'm supposed to know about those, am I?
Tempest: No, I don't believe so. But go ahead.
Xarana: Good thing the impact seemed to stop at the blade, then. Instead of transferring the force of the impact to the arm wielding the blade like it should have.
Darian: Inertialess sword hilts?
Xarana: Intriguing...

Abdel was strong enough and tall enough to seriously unbalance his opponent.

Alexandria: How the hell?
Darian: The assailant is being knocked off balance by *one* parry... he's doomed.
Alexandria: Abdel or the attacker?
Xarana: Hopefully both.
Tempest: We all wish.

And that's the first three sentences. If you want me to do a full first segment, I'll be happy to, but I'm going to be away for the rest of the afternoon.

I'd start with the first one and from the beginning, personally. Xzar and Montaron! Khalid the wife-beater! Spiders in Jaheira's cleavage! It just doesn't get any better worse better worse... uh, stuff. <_<

Would everyone be using their own characters, or would there be a standard cast? The advantages of the second are obvious, from a reader's viewpoint, but it may of course limit some people who don't like or/and can't write certain characters. (Another idea is to use a standard cast slightly larger than what you'd typically use so characters can be swapped in and out but still retain some kind of continuity.)

...I kind of want <charname> as one of the riffers (brackets and all): "I don't have a personality, and even I find this offensive!"

Nah, I think the real fun of the MST is by integrating the characters' responses to each line of the story as it happens. For example, the first couple of lines and my MST-ing it:

Yes, I meant comments on a section someone MSTed should be here. Say I wanted to remark on your he's doomed line. That should go here. Only the story and the MST in the other thread, that middle part of your post.

And that's the first three sentences. If you want me to do a full first segment, I'll be happy to, but I'm going to be away for the rest of the afternoon.

Um yes. You don't need to do the full first chapter, I didn't mean to say you should, just do a few paragraphs or whatever, until you need to stop for whatever reason.

Would everyone be using their own characters, or would there be a standard cast?

I would tend to say take whoever you feel deserves the suffering/would be the most amusing/you have the best handle on. Alternatively we could go with only the Bioware cast of both games?, or whichever game we're MSTing.

Thoughts?

I suppose it would kind of make sense to have <charname>, Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc (and Boo!) and Dynaheir as the "victims" and Irenicus as the Evil Genius... (Bodhi can be his incompetent underling.)

Depending on the length of the MST'd section, either way could work. But, if the posts are short, it will get rather messy to switch characters so often.

Well, I'll hopefully have the first full section done tonight.

I'm partial to each person doing a separate cast, myself. Everyone can write the characters feel they have the best handle on, or use their own-and we'll also have some variety between posters. My nominal cast for my sections is three figments of my imagination and one Bioware npc-Darian, Xarana (from Cold Fire-she'll be a mod project after Darian's finished), Alexandria (Charname, from At Soul's Edge), and Mazzy. But if people want to stick to entirely Bioware npc's, that's fine with me.

I like the first post. :) I'll also be happy to take my turns writing sections, and I have my cast in mind: Minsc, Aerie, Kaylia (my Charname), and Anomen. I can get the stuff to MST from that site that was linked-just tell me when to take a section. :)

Okay, I just read the MST thread for the first time, and have one question...

That story was published? As a book?

I'm so glad to be reading it first in this format, rather than having paid for it!

It was published, yes :(

I have all three. One of my sisters had seen I had the games, and gave my the full set for my birthday one year.

I haven't yet killed her for it, but it's on my to-do list.

I think I might put one of my charnames through this, with Branwen, Yeslick, and Xan, unless anyone objects.

Back from the brink.

Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Oh. Dear. God.

I was in the same situation as Zoraciel Ivtel... and I cannot believe that stuff was allowed to be published. *sobs* Why? Why? Why when they could have done such a good job with it...?

*breaks down*

Anyway, I'd be happy to do a segment for this, with Danika (my <Charname> from Dancing with the Night), Cormin (a figment of my imagination from Dancing with the Night), Jaheria, and Aerie as my first-ups. I guess I just need to go borrow the books or something. *shudders*. I don't suppose there's a website around with any of the texts?

By the way, guys, just as a thing. Perhaps preface the main thread with an explanation of what MST is? I was a bit lost until I came to this one and finally worked everything out.

Oh, and at Tempest: very funny first addition. :)

Through lightning, travel shadow,
Through hell and all above,
Surviving sword and arrow,
Bound stronger by the love

And in the end a witness,
To where the death has lain,
Silent through the sorrow,
Where innocents lie slain

Aye I was planning on it, but had completely forgotten a previous engagement for last night. So I ended up not getting around to it before Tempest could. No he's the only one who can.

So anyways, we have a request from Solstice, Bluenose, and Shadowhawke, yes? Then I might take a turn.

EDIT:

I don't suppose there's a website around with any of the texts?

Well a previous mst has the words the the story here. But you'd need to remove the comments.

If no one minds, I'll go ahead and start writing the next segment now-I think I'll make it Kaylia (my Charname-elven swashbuckler), Minsc, Anomen, and Edwin.

I'd like to do it too, as I actually have a hard copy of the book (yes, I am an idiot for purchasing it). I'd do my two mod characters, Jailin and Virgil, with Khalid and Imoen along in there.
If I don't get a turn, PLEASE PLEASE somebody mention the descrepancies with Khalid and with Imoen. :)\

Fantastic writing, all :)

Okay. So Shadowhawke, Kellen, and Isilven are up.

I'm surprised no one's had Immy or Jaheira yet (well it is just three so far). Well I'll probably have Jaheira. Might throw in Cernd, Minsc, and/or Edwin, or maybe Rixy, Erelis, or Dorana.
