Hey!

Posted some of these questions to the mega mod forum but I think this would be a better place to ask. So, usually when I play baldurs gate I get immersed in the game and wouldn't really want to use cluathings or ctrl+y if possible. I read that BP177 has a lot of bugs that required this kind of action to bypass. I also read that by not installing the AI enhancement component of the BP177 you could considerably reduce the amount of bugs. And that you could still install all the other improvements like the ascension? Can someone please confirm this?

There has also been rumors about BP178. Rumors which have slowly died and there hasn't been any mention about releasing BP178 since February. It seems that this has become an abandoned project and there is no reason to wait any longer because it could take years before someone else continues the work. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

And thanks for all the modders. You are doing great work.

I don't know how this is going to end. BP 178 has been in the works for months and months and version 177 contains too many bugs to be played, let alone Ascension for BP which is game breaking. DavidW at G3 is working on SCS II (working title) that should ideally apply the numerous AI improvements that SCS has introduced to Baldur's Gate 2 (and hopefully we'll have a BGT version!). He has started only few months ago but now I can't help wondering which of the two competitors will see the light of the day first.

It's so sad that this kind of mod gets abandoned just before it could be made stable and playable. It would have been such a good addition to all the bg mods out there. Well at least it has made this far, many mods can't do even that. Is there a way to play the ascension somehow without the BP? I heard that the standalone ascension mod is broken too. Is this true?

As far as i know ... no

Regarding BP ... if u don't mind to install LOT of mods ... u can try the old BP (non weidu) version. IT IS NOT supported anymore (so u can find bugs also) and its install is pretty complicated but it works (or at least, it worked ;-) ) I don't know if the download is still available around though. I did create a guide some time ago and should be here in the forum somewhere ... anyway ... just a matter of choice, play actual fully bugged BP or old "maybe" bugged too old version

Tired of the same boring spawned creatures u face in BG? Try BGSpawn

Daylight,

you should not think that BP is abandoned anyway. It's not so. The original author (Horred the Plague) sort of takes breaks (sometimes very long) from BP to dedicate himself to other coding challenges.

He's always come back to BP before. Let's just hope that he does it again.

In the meantime, his right-hand man, seanas, is doing what he can with his little spare time to be of support. We have many talented coders here like pro5 and others that found many bugs and provided a solution for them.

There are some bugs though that are not fixed and are causing major discomforts.

Hence my suggestion to not install BP untill 178 is out.

Oh, there is not many bugs on BP right now, most of them are not critical:
-Lasaonar don't fight with drows
-lil problems with planar sphere (Tolgerias etc.)
-Watchers Keep problem (ritual scroll)
and few more, you can play with them and push forward
There's critical problem with Ascension-BP thus it is not playable, well, at least final fight in ToB.
I, however, dislike way of 'enhancing' some creatures by BP, beholders, gauts, minflayers etc. which sees invisible (by script) and can attack them, target spells and innates are annoying. Better, I found out that true seeing is not working on those monsters (you cannot target them by spells). There's a lot of other minor issues (illithides teleporting to rest of the party far, far away) ... but I like AI enhancement...enemies are generally much smarter and provide some challange.

Hi,

I'm posting on this thread in hopes of reviving it, since I don't think all of Daylight's original questions were answered, and mine are similar. I played through part of BG I, then discovered the various BG mod sites and BGT in particular, and decided I'd like to create a mega install to play through the entire BG set plus some of the mods. I'm a bit put-off by the discussion on the v177 bugs thread. Given that there is no definite date for a bug-fix follow on to BP 177, I am looking for some guidance as to what parts of BP 177 might be (relatively?) bug free, or if I should skip it all together, since, like Daylight, I would like not to have to deal with interruptions in my play and having to research bug work-arounds.

Any advice or pointers greatly appreciated.

I'm also interested in whether this is OK- I'd like to install mostly Tactics-mod components and install the 2 Big Picture components which don't conflict with this mod - I'm hoping that if I install the Big Picture before the Tactics mod and before the DoTQuestPack AI component that the lack of BP-Core AI won't be a problem - but I'd rather not go through most of SOA before finding out that it causes a CTD etc.
I should add that with the current BP177 version, the Ascension component is, reportedly, so buggy that it will break the game - you're supposed to install the TDD-compatible version of WEIDU's Ascension on Black Wyrm Lair, instead - at least if you're also installing Darkest Day etc.

Actually, Daylight's questions have been answered, but in other threads.

The trouble with the BPv177 bugs thread is that most of it doesn't report BP bugs. (I know: I just re-read all of it. For fun.)

It really should be called:
OldVeteran list of possible bugs (with no proof that they're due to BP, but they might)
together with Bereth's usual spam masked as being useful comments

My advices:

-- If you're new to the whole regular BG way of gaming, don't install BP. Period.
-- If you're new to the MegaInstall way of BG gaming, don't install BP. Period.

If you choose to ignore these advice:
-- If you're not comfortable with editing the TP2 for BP (or you don't even know what a 'TP2' is), don't install BP. Period.
-- If you're not comfortable with do a bit of tweaking/file-editing/problem-solving/testing...Don't. Install. BP.
.

If all else falls thru, then it means you're gonna play with BP.
-- Make the changes that were reported in that thread. I think there were only 3 or 4.
-- Install the standalone version of Ascension before BP, and :duh!: don't install the BP version
-- Go wild with playing

My last advice is to all players/members to start your own "<fill-in-your-name> list of possible bugs" thread. Especially you, Strontium Dog. Be sure to post (copy/paste) your weidu.log into the first post.

Azazello,

Thanks for the very clear guidance. I have not read all the threads (that would be difficult), but of those I have it is hard to tell what tolerance each poster has for having to troubleshoot, dig into the various files and hand edit solutions. I'm a programmer, so I could probably figure it out if I had to, but it's not the way I want to spend my leisure time, so it's nice to have some unequivocal advice one way or the other.
