Introduction

This post will serve as a guide on how to install Rogue Rebalancing alongside other mods in an optimal fashion. Before installing this mod make sure that you have both Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and the expansion pack Throne of Bhaal installed on your system. Furthermore, make sure to also download and install the latest official patch version 26498 for Throne of Bhaal. In case you notice that a certain feature of the Rogue Rebalancing mod is causing a compatibility issue with another BG2 mod (or vice versa), please report it in the comments thread so that I can address that in the next revision. It would be helpful to list any other mods which you have installed and the installation order as well. The easiest way to do this is to post the contents of your WeiDU.log.

Compatibility with other mods

What follows next is a list of mods which have been tested alongside Rogue Rebalancing and who's a compatibility rating has been determined. Any mods not mentioned on this list should be considered as untested and potentially incompatible with Rogue Rebalancing. The list will be periodically updated as new information becomes available, so feel free to contribute. Note that mods which were deemed to be compatible with Rogue Rebalancing may not necessarily be compatible with each other. Furthermore, the installation order presented here refers only to the fact whether these mods should be installed before or after Rogue Rebalancing. It is not an actual indicator whether some of the listed mods should be installed before others. Please check the documentation and the discussion forums of all mods which you intend to install for more detailed compatibility information. For easier reference, the mod entries have been color-coded according to their compatibility rating as follows:

Green = fully compatible with Rogue Rebalancing
Blue = special case (compatibility can be achieved but only by closely following specific install instructions)
Orange = partially incompatible with Rogue Rebalancing
Red = incompatible with Rogue Rebalancing
Grey = untested with Rogue Rebalancing (unknown or roughly estimated compatibility)

Mods which should be installed BEFORE Rogue Rebalancing:
  • Baldurdash ToB fixpack (v1.12) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing. Note: this mod is superseded by the G3 BG2 Fixpack
  • G3 BG2 Fixpack (v9.01) [link] - fully compatible and strongly recommended, should be installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Easy TuTu [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing, mutually exclusive with BGT
  • EasyTutu "Degreenifier" [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • EasyTutu NPC Kits [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Baldur's Gate Trilogy-WeiDU (v1.09) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing, mutually exclusive with EasyTutu
  • Big Picture-WeiDU (v179f) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Classic Adventures (v0.52) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Ascension-WeiDU (v1.4.23) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing

  • One Pixel Productions (v2.70) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Divine Remix (v7) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Sword Coast Stratagems (v14) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing. Note well: As of version 22, Sword Coast Stratagems should be installed AFTER Rogue Rebalancing.
  • Tower of Deception (v3.1) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing

  • Check The Bodies ( v1.12a) [link] - fully compatible if installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Galactygon's SpellPack (B5) [link] - The SpellPack component which alters the Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting spell makes the enemy spellcasters harm themselves and their allies when they use it. This can lead to AI problems in the tactical components of Rogue Rebalancing (Chosen of Cyric encounter and Shadow Thief Improvements). Likewise, the SpellPack component which alters the Glitterdust spell may cause serious AI problems with the tactical components of Rogue Rebalancing. This can be somewhat circumvented by not using the Glitterdust spell against AI controlled opponents
  • Beyond the Law ( v1.35) [link] - to prevent a conceptual incompatibility, Arledrian's new quest which is introduced by Rogue Rebalancing will not occur if Kova or Kiyone are in the party
  • Igi's iiItem ( v5) [link] - the part of iiItem which adds random items to creatures could possibly cause some slowdown when used in conjunction with the "Shadow Thief Improvements" and the "Chosen of Cyric" components of Rogue Rebalancing. The mod author has been notified of the issue and will probably correct it in the next release but, for now, I'd recommend not installing iiItem alongside the aforementioned components of Rogue Rebalancing. In any case, iiItem should be installed before Rogue Rebalancing if both mods are to be used together
  • Igi's Spell System Adjustment Mod ( v4) [link] - untested, probably incompatible with the Chosen of Cyric encounter and the Shadow Thief Improvements components of Rogue Rebalancing
  • Revised (Improved) Battles Mod (v6.3) [link] - untested, unknown compatibility, should be installed before Rogue Rebalancing
  • Morrow Gate (v9D) [link] - untested, unknown compatibility, should be installed before Rogue Rebalancing

Mods which should be installed AFTER Rogue Rebalancing:
  • aTweaks (v3.1) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Westley Weimer's Ease-of-Use Mod (v32) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing. Note: this mod is superseded by the G3 BG2 Tweak Pack
  • EasyTutu Spawn Randomizer [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • BP-BGT Worldmap (v7.1) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Sword Coast Stratagems (v22) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Sword Coast Stratagems II (v13) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • G3 BG2 Tweak Pack (v9) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • PnP Free Action (v2) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Unique Containers (v3) [link] - fully compatible, should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Improved Anvil (v5) [link] - Improved Anvil is no longer compatible with Rogue Rebalancing due to the fact that RR uses Detectable Spells as of v3.9
  • Virtue (v19) [link] - untested, should be compatible if installed after Rogue Rebalancing
SPECIAL CASE - these mods can be compatible with Rogue Rebalancing but only if specific install instructions are closely followed
  • Ashes of Embers (v27) [link] - The "Sensible Weapon Restrictions for MODS" component of Ashes of Embers needs to be installed after Rogue Rebalancing. The other components can be installed either before or after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Item Revisions Mod (v2) [link] - The main component of the Item Revisions mod should be installed before Rogue Rebalancing. All other components of that mod should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Ding0's Tweak Pack (v20) [link] - The "Summons/NPCs Set Off Traps" component of Ding0's Tweak Pack is conceptually incompatible with the "Shadow Thief Improvements" component of Rogue Rebalancing as it will inadvertently cause the Shadow Thief opponents to trigger their own traps. The other components of Ding0's Tweak Pack are fully compatible and should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing
  • Refinements (v3.22) [link] - Since Rogue Rebalancing further expands the Bard and Thief HLA tables as of v4.0 a very specific install order is now required in order to achieve full compatibility with the Refinements mod. For best results you need to install all of RR except for the "Thief High Level Ability revisions" and "Bard High Level Ability revisions" components, then install Refinements and finally install RR's "Thief High Level Ability revisions" and "Bard High Level Ability revisions" components
Note: this topic is reserved for confirmed compatibility notes and install order instructions. If you want to report a previously undocumented compatibility issue please use the comments thread.

Concerning mods which feature general AI enhancements:

For best results, it is highly advised to install Rogue Rebalancing after mods which feature general AI improvements such as Big Picture, Tactics, Quest Pack...etc. Otherwise, some parts of RR like the "Shadow Thief Improvements" component and Arledrian's Silverblaze Quest may fail to function properly.

Sword Coast Stratagems II is the only exception to this rule. It is advised to install SCSII after Rogue Rebalancing so that the SCSII scripts can detect and adjust themselves to the new items which are introduced by various components of Rogue Rebalancing. On the other hand, SCSI (for BG1) should be installed before Rogue Rebalancing, especially on BGT.

Check the Bodies note:

The "Shadow Thief Improvements" component of Rogue Rebalancing is incompatible with the "Captured!" quest from the "Check the Bodies" mod.

Fixed as of RR v4.33 and CtB v1.12

Ding0's Tweak Pack note:

The "Summons/NPCs Set Off Traps" component of Ding0's Tweak Pack is conceptually incompatible with the "Shadow Thief Improvements" component of Rogue Rebalancing as it will inadvertently cause the Shadow Thief opponents to trigger their own traps. If you wish to use both of these components at the same time then you must install "Summons/NPCs Set Off Traps" before "Shadow Thief Improvements" so that the changes it introduces do not apply to the STI areas. The other components of Ding0's Tweak Pack are fully compatible and should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing.

Item Revisions Mod note:

The main component of the Item Revisions mod should be installed before Rogue Rebalancing. All other components of that mod should be installed after Rogue Rebalancing.

Furthermore, in order to avoid content duplication, the Short Sword of Backstabbing will not be modified by Rogue Rebalancing if the Item Revisions mod is detected.

Refinements Mod note:

Since Rogue Rebalancing further expands the Bard and Thief HLA tables as of v4.0 a very specific install order is now required in order to achieve full compatibility with the Refinements mod. For best results you need to:

1) Install all of RR except for the "Thief High Level Ability revisions" and "Bard High Level Ability revisions" components
2) Install Refinements
3) Install RR's "Thief High Level Ability revisions" and "Bard High Level Ability revisions" components

With that done, Rogue Rebalancing can detect Refinements and take over any Thief and Bard HLAs which were originally based off of RR (i.e. Mass Charm) while simultaneously leaving any HLAs which are unique to Refinements completely intact (i.e. Bladed Weapon Specialization) and finally adding RR's own unique HLAs (i.e. Resonating Weapon) into the mix. For reference, RR takes over Mass Charm, Enthralling Melody, Sound Burst, Magic Flute and the Enhanced and Lingering songs in all Bard HLA tables. In the Thief HLA tables, RR takes over Crippling Strike, Evasion and Greater Evasion.

G3 BG2 Tweaks note:

The "Thief High Level Ability revisions" component of Rogue Rebalancing needs to be installed after the "Triple-Class HLA Tables" component of G3 BG2 Tweaks. This install order is necessary because the "Triple-Class HLA Tables" component of BG2 Tweaks currently overwrites the corresponding 2DA files with its own versions which, in term, negates RR's HLA changes for Fighter/Mage/Thieves. OTOH, since RR's component patches the corresponding 2DAs in a non-destructive manner, it's safe to install it after BG2 Tweaks.

Fixed as of G3 BG2 Tweaks v8

aTweaks note:

Since both mods share certain resources, it's very important to follow the recommended install order and always install aTweaks after Rogue Rebalancing.

To emphasize the point, never install any component of Rogue Rebalancing after aTweaks.

Belated note on Sword Coast Stratagems:

As of version 22 of Sword Coast Stratagems, it is recommended that you install it after Rogue Rebalancing, in the same position where you would previously install Sword Coast Stratagems II.
