That was the charm of DnD, now 3rd Ed is almost a completely different game. I guess that why I haven't gamed since 2nd ed. I always felt if I wanted to do anything with a character I would play GURPS. DnD used to be easy for anyone to learn. I think that is why the gaming community is shrinking. This is just my opinion, please take no offence.

None at all.

But know that the closest I've come to 2nd Edition is BG(1&2) and IWD

Kits are quite similar to prestige classes. The main difference is that you take a kit at first level which immediately modifies your character. In BG2 most of the base classes have kits - the thief has assassin, swashbuckler, and bounty hunter, for example.

A 3rd edition prestige class has requirements; you have to be able to do certain things before you can enter the class. So in NWN2 to become an assassin you would need ranks in Hide and Move Silently, and you wouldn't start your career in the kit.

@ Minotaur

A minotaur character might be playable, depending mostly on the level of the module I end up running. At low levels a minotaur is too powerful for the rest of the party, but if I run say Tomb of Horrors with high level characters you'd fit in well.

@ Solstice.

I'm not worried about people's previous experience or lack of it. I'm quite happy to help out with any problems.

Two questions that need answering.

What rules system do people prefer? 2nd or 3rd edition as both possible for me, but I'd not want to impose a set that most don't want. If you have a preference please post it, and if you won't play with one please say that too. So far:

For 2nd edition.
Leahnkain

For 3rd edition.
Kellen

No preference.
Menelanna
Dirt Squirrel

What level of adventure are people interested in? Low- (1st-5th), mid- (6th-12th), or high- (13th+).

Low-level:

Mid-level:
Menelanna
Dirt Squirrel
Kellen

High-level:
Kellen

No preference

no preference on edition. but playing as at least mid-lvl would be nice.
And are there any special classes a cleric can take? I am planning on doing a human cleric of Savras thanks to Kellen's suggestions.

Sounds like either 2nd or 3rd would work for me, so whatever most people want is good.

As far as level of characters we would be starting out with, I think I would like a mid-level but would also settle for a low level one. I don't think I would want to do a high-level character to start with.

Mid or high sound fun if we're going to have spellcasters. It does get a mite annoying having to guard their rears all the time. If it's a less magic oriented party I suppose a lower powered party would be acceptable.

I would probably prefer 3rd simply because most of the resources I've managed to dig up across the internet are 3rd, and as yet I have one 2nd edition resourse, and that's deities stuff. Unless...

Okay scratch that. Lots of AD&D material there. So basically my only reasoning for 3rd is the flexibility for Race/Class at the moment.

And the character generator. Yeah, I'd kinda prefer 3rd ed.

For me it depends the module, so I guess level doesn't matter. Some of them I have memorized because I DM'ed them so many times. As for rules 2nd ed. I would probably play a good aligned human fighter. I could do evil, Althon in CA is a good example of an old evil character I played.

if there's space for me, I would love to play, too - I'll play any character class the party needs to balance out the party, and I will play any level campaign, and i will post religiously (and I promise not to be wordy). I may have DM'ed some of these back in the day, but I can't remember any of them now, and promise not to disturb the dust on them until after the campaign is over...

but if the party is already full, no problem :)

I totally know what I am doing now! The Specialty Priest of Savras really sounds cool! Draw back...no armor... but hey I can use Divination!

I'm interested in playing a Wizard or Wizard/Cleric if one is needed. 2E or 3E is fine by me but would probably prefer a mid-level campaigne to start with.

I'd be willing to give it a try as anything, if you'll be willing to babysit a person whose experience with DnD is limited to the Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale II, NWN2, and looking at various handbooks. I wouldn't even know where to start, really, but I'd love to give it a try.
"Ok, I've just about had my FILL of riddle asking, quest assigning, insult throwing, pun hurling, hostage taking, iron mongering, smart arsed fools, freaks, and felons that continually test my will, mettle, strength, intelligence, and most of all, patience! Hi Minotaur!
Good to see you, watch out for that Menelanna however, she is really quite evil...what with those nasty arrows of hers and all!
Hope a minotaur is allowed, I could always use a big strong guy like you to protect lil ol' me!

I believe you're trying to seduce me, Mrs. Robinson.

They say the world is going to Hell.

They are wrong.

The world IS Hell! Always has been, always will be; except perhaps for the five percent or so of the population who can afford differently.

And, if one must reside in Hell, it is far better to do it as a minion of the Devil than as a member of the damned.

Harumpfh!
I *hardly* think that a lady of my station would be bothered to seduce one as hairy and foul smelling as a minotaur! I was merely making your acquaintance out of politeness! (and it never hurts to have a brute of a minotaur on your side when danger comes calling!)

(Please keep in mind that this is *not* actually me, but rather the character I am playing, who said that!)

Yes, but so far we know you are a venomaphiliac, and an evil temptress; that's it. Anything else? Class? Race?

(I think I need to spend a little less time on the boards and a little more time finishing this NPC!)
