"Paint:" I usually use Fireworks. Will that work?

If your Fireworks can do layers, then you are fine. I will be using Photoshop Elements for the class (I have PS 6.0, but don't need all that extra stuff for this). But you don't have to make the door bitmap if you don't want to do it. I will just show everyone how to do it easily.
Don't worry about being a Noob:) That is what the class is for. I will just show everyone plainly and easily with no technical talk. You can ask all the questions you want. The area will be small with just one door (which we will make together). It will be a simple area to get the feel of making one.
Make sure to get that Yugma thingy and register for it, that is how you will see what I do. It's free and painless, it just asks for an email address. Hopefully you have MSN also... that is an easy way for us to conference. The Yugma has a conference, but it is slower than MSN.
I will post the files you will need before the class somewhere (depending on how it is announced) or just PM each person with the necessary info.
