I was thinking about this idea the other day. Probably posted it in Fanart challenge but not here.

But we all know that there are other games than BG here.

So some months we could perhaps center it on a particular spot in one of those games.

Or we can do it more around themes that can be found in several games. Betrayal, love, corruption, redemption, failure, success, family, friendship, etc. All can work with several different games, as well as a rare jewel of original works, even if it is called the Fanfic challenge.

Ah here. Fanart read Fanfic as needed.

The new oblivion folks inspired me, so

How about Challenges that deal with non-BG themes. Afterall we have sections for NWN(1&2), IWD(1&2), TES(all), BG(1&2), KotOR(1&2), and PS:T. What about fanart for those games?

Favorite enemies could be an interesting and varied topic. Favorite NPC could give both some fanart making, and let us know who's liked the most. Draw a [Insert (Pr)class or race here].

Hmm, perhaps we could have a separate thread for challenge ideas.

EDIT: Ask and receive, eh? Okay share your ideas for challenges.

..Or even give the members two ff challenges a month: the BG-related one and a general cRPG-related one, with crossovers and purely other fiction? Or even a free-topic challenge with a motive pulled out of Celestine's hat :whistling: ...

I would like a challenge related to Planescape: Torment :)

Oblivion fanfic challenge idea: Write a story about a character who is not a human, elf, or any modded variation on the above (meaning no half-Humans or half-Elves).

...Story about a character with an entire surviving extended family who stay that way.
...Story about a character who is an assassin and is actually evil, not misunderstood.
...Story about a character who is a vampire and ditto.
...Story about a sincerely religious character of any kind.

Actually Sickle(do you mind if I call you Sickle or Yield?), most of those work for any game/original story.

And I heavily endorse the religious character idea, and a non-human, non-elf, though unfortunately we'll probably get dragon's Yuan-ti and all manner of other crazy things then.

And that's bad... why? Also, a deeply religious character isn't always blabbering or thinking about their religion-take my Perspectives stories with Darian for example. He is devoutly religious-to the point where his goddess grants him spells-but he doesn't *think* about religion in a way that pops up in a story too often. A deeply religious character is actually very rarely actively thinking about it-for such a character, it's simply a basic part of how they think and look at the world.

Call me whatever you like, I don't mind. :)

That's why I said "And no modded races." Most of the really wacky ones in Oblivion are modded (half-cats, half-dragons, half-mice, etc.) though I can't speak for other fantasy continuua.

The most interesting fanfics I've read were about nonhumans that ACTED like nonhumans - being a good writer means really being able to put yourself into an alien point of view IMO.

Indeed. I imagine you would like to see the rare Argorian/Khajiit fanfiction then?

A motive off my hat? I can't remember the last time I have one on my head. :D

I'm not opposed to the idea of having more than 1 challenge a month and for non-BG related. Afterall, SHS is now moving towards other games too.

You might want to find a link to a site with lore info about the Elder Scrolls races (and heck, the series in general) if you intend to do a challenge for an Elder Scrolls universe, though. Not sure if any of the usual monkeys who write fanfic know much about those games, so if you do a challenge, don't leave folks in the cold. :)

I have an idea for a writing challenge, one I would REALLY like to see done and would enter into in a minute.

One of the things I like best about BG2 are the NPC character bios, but I?ve always thought they were to one dimensional and short. I understand why this must be so, given the nature of the game, but...

How about a challenge to come up with a brand new NPC (an idea for a mod maybe?) and then give your creation a full background and history. Who they are, where they came from, where they are found and what they?re doing there. What their goals are, and so on.

Thots?

Minotaur et? all.

As Tempest has been doing with Darian and Xarana?

I am quite sure I know who you intend, and I like it. Have been considering starting one of those myself.

Here's a challenge idea me and a friend came up with. Group therapy. Can you mind putting Bishop, Anomen and others in a room together and having them work on their issues? It can lead to many laughs and some tears. And probably fights.

Ooh. That could be fun. Afterall, what character in our games doesn't have some sort of emotional problem. Will definitely put that one in the roster, and maybe even for next month...
