Very Nasty Spawns

Hey,

I've another problem with my mega-installation.

When traveling to certain areas (trollwood(?), Trademeet etc) I get random encounters with huge spawns consisting of trolls, umber hulks (!) and some other nastys.
Since my party is around level 9, begining of chapter 3, they can't even flee, let alone win those battles - everyone is confused and/or mugged before they reach the travel zone.
Also in some areas (for example the one that has the dyrad queen, the one firkraag (?) sends you to) there are a lot more monsters than I remember - spiders, trolls, werewolves, some druids, orcs... and all basically trying to kill me at once. Now, I have no problem with them being there - there are just to many, and more importantly, their abilitys (like the spiderweb, for example) keep killing me.

So, i suppose one of three will be true:

1) Those encounters were created to provide some challenge for pro players who already have really tricked out partys at that point in the game and/or would beat a dragon with a bunch of lvl5 characters

2) It's the game's way of telling me not to go to that area, yet
(But trademeet?! Coming to think of it, there was no messenger from trademeet at the copper coronet, either.)

3) Something went wrong and I'm geting insane spawns that would be a real Pain for almost everyone.

You could try removing the Improved Encounters component of BP v177, but I thought they were set up based on difficulty setting too. What's your difficulty level?

Hey, I play on the default level, medium I think. I tried (and started with) core, but got scared off when I read that death could be permanent there for my npcs?

My party consists of a kensai (waiting for lvl 13), Nalia, Jaheiry and Valygar. I do realize that I may be missing a tank, but I doubt that this would change anything. I didn't do a lot of quests in chapter 2 but instead decided to make 3 the "one that seems to last forever because you do every sidequest you can while avoiding the main plot like the plague". So, possibly it is somehow related to the chapter?


However, it IS damn annoying not to be able to even start quests that were given to me in c2 because I can't even reach the area because of the encounters.


PS: Is it normal not to meet a trademeet messenger at the coronet in c2/3?

edit: Ok, I uninstalled the improved encounters component. Hopefully that'll stop the madnes. Does "improved" always equal "harder. a lot."?

You should always be able to run away from these encounters. Actually, my party does that all the time, not because we can't whupped them asses, but because they don't give substantial XP, and they don't have any good loot.

EDIT: if you're using Worldmap 6.4, I remember it seems to spawn random attacks more than usual. If this is the case, please use version 6.5.

PS: Is it normal not to meet a trademeet messenger at the coronet in c2/3?

I believe he shows up (also?) at the City Gates. It's a good idea to always leave/enter Athkatla from City Gates to trigger encounters like that, plus no random attacks occur in that area.

Can I uninstall 6.4 and install 6.5 without breaking anything, then?
As you can see I installed a few things AFTER the worldmap - those shouldn't be affected by it at all, though, as far as I can tell with my very limited understanding.

Yacomo's patch is a change to bgmain.exe so that won't affect anything significant. Chores FF is a bit tricky, but you're early enough in the game where it will not affect the BG1 portion, and might not interfere in the BG2 at all. Just make sure to do a save before the transition - and save that save somewhere safe - and if you do have problem in Irenicus' dungeon we can fix you up without re-installing.

So the cautious answer is, 'Probably yes'

Once you re-install worldmap, you'll have to follow the instructions in the mod's folder "How to use a new Worldmap without having to start a New Game.doc", OR use [my instructions] - which I think are "more better". :lol: (sorry, e!)

Yes indeed, install 6.5 instead of 6.4, however you're going to find you have the same issue when travelling in the BG2 areas, with the nasty spawns primarily due to a combination of BP's improved encounters, and the fact you have CtB installed. CtB has an area called "Neng Horse Ranch" located just outside of "City Gates" in Athkatla, which is revealed when you 1st go to the City Gates area. Because that area is revealed immediately, the link from City Gates to Neng Horse Ranch is thrown into the calculations that the Worldmap does when determining the most direct route from City Gates to just about anywhere on the BG2 portion of the map. As it happens, the author of CtB has that particular City Gates to Neng Horse Ranch travel link set to a 60% probability of having a random encounter when travelling along that link. Then throw in BP's Random Encounters and you derive some really nasty spawns :devil: .
If you want to reduce the chance of this occuring, you would probably be best off, uninstalling WM 6.4, delete that folder, extract the WM 6.5 archive, and then before installing the Worldmap again, go to your BGII-SoA/Worldmap/map_mods_links.tbl file, open it (with wordPad or any text editor) and find the link in the CTB portion of the table that has AR0020 as the source area, AR3597 as the destination area, scroll to the far right of that link and change the encounter probability from 60 to 10, or something more reasonable. You will also want to do the same thing for the travel link that has AR3597 as the source area and AR0020 as the destination area (the return link).
One more change you'll need to make if you use the "Revised Travel Times" component is open the BP-BGT_Worldmap/TBL/map_mods_links_CtB.tbl file and make those same corresponding changes to the appropriate travel links.

So, Erebusan, is that where I'd go to fix the crazy travel times on my world map? I've got times like 144 hours to go places. Nutty things like that. I installed Riebald's genie just so I could get back and forth in less than lethal times.

You'll need to post your WeiDU log for me to even attempt to answer that question. It depends on where you want to go, and what components you have installed.

All you need to do is re-calibrate the warp-core modulator system, to run in sync with the transporter... and then I lost the thread of what he was saying. Just asking you if that is the file where the warp core thingy is found.


It's all the TDD stuff that has the lethal travel times.

The majority of the travel time issues are resolved with WM6.5 Revised travel time component. It's hard to determine whether you need to mess with anything or not without being able to see what you have installed.

You'll still have the very, very long travel times to many areas with your install. Try installing the "Revised Travel Time" component of WM6.5, use the pinned tp2 in the Worldmap forum, and if you shoot me an e-mail I'll send you the fix for the Riatavin Plague timer that didn't get resolved with the latest release.
