Is there a requirement for listing weapon animations ina 2DA file is BGII?
I know that avatar animations need to be listed but I'm not so sure about the weapons animations.

I've taken the flaming sword animations from BGI and compressed them so that they will fit into BGII but upon placing the weapon on my Paladin I find I only get a normal sword!

Neither NI or IEEP seems able to change the weapon avatar BAM, only the internal and external icons it uses.

Any ideas?

how come you always look so damn cool in every photo I see you in?!?

Speaking of modding, I listened to IER 3 yesterday, so you can have another quote for your signature: how come you sound so damn cool, as well as look it? It's unfair. Seriously.

Have you also copied over any .eff that comes along with the flaming sword? These effect the actual sword animations and what not.

That's because the BG2 engine isn't equipped to support the flaming sword animation. This was something the designers did to save time/effort. There's no real way to get the sword avatar to "flame" as it did in BG1. It's why they used the ShiningColoursByRBG to simulate a flaming effect instead of the vastly superior looking animation from BG1. You're SOL I'm afraid.

Is this a hardcoded diference between BGI & BGII?

Yes. There was quite a bit of discussion about it when BG2 first came out. Many people preferred the BG1 version, but apparently it just wasn't considered worth the work by the designers.

When I asked the BioWare guys about why the flaming sword effect was removed, the answer I received was that they liked it as much as the rest of us did... in 640x480, and it looked so cruddy at any higher resolutions, especially 800x600, that they got rid of it there and then. It was originally in the first builds of the BG2 engine.
