I am wondering how much cache size do you all usually set your game to. Also what about te path search nodes and game speed?

Maximum Frame Rate=40
Path Search Nodes=400000

CacheSize=900
(I'm still experimenting with this. 900 works, will soon try 999, but I think 1024 did not. Will test it again.)

Why wait? Use these, as they work. Having a larger cache reduces the number of times the games has to reload BIFs from the Data folder or from the discs, so having it at 900 Mb is pretty big savings.

Or better, you try 999 and tell us what results you've found.

EDIT: 999 works. -_-

Tha max frame rate dont work too good for me, I keep mine at 30 - 35, 40 is too fast and makes everyone look like they are running and lags the game alot. 900 for the cache is good as long as you have the space.

When gaming, I throttle the CPU to about half speed, to keep the fan from running constantly, so I need to bump up the frame rate a bit. Works out nicely: no fan or soft blowing, no jerkiness within the game, characters move normally.

It seemed to work fine for me. The reason why I am asking for this information is because I am working on building a custom case/computer just for Baldurs Gate I & II. I am wondering what specs I should get. I know that the computers coming out now are way to powerful for BG and alot of its power will go unused. I am trying to figure out what specs are low enough to run the game as fast as I can and not have any unused extras.

I just swapped my GeForce 5700 128Mb for a GeForce 7900 256Mb and the effect on the Infinity Engine's graphics performance is dire. Quite often I have to wait for the cursor to catch up with me and the opening credits are like a slideshow. If I didn't need the 7900's OpenGL hardware accelerator for development work I'd have put the (much older) 5700 back in by now. Don't assume newer=better.

I have an old GeForce 64MB I was planning to use. Since the recommended is 8MB.

Don't assume newer=better

I totally agree! That is why i am searching for used parts for this build, the only new thing I might buy is a hard drive since those get worse with age.

What do you use to throttle the CPU- mo'slo or something? And what do you set it at? I never thought of doing this for BG, but the constant fan does annoy me, so maybe I'll give it a shot.

I use RMClock. It can also used be used to undervolt your CPU.

If you decide to use it, lemme know, as it is not initially easy to learn. I have some links that should help.
