Okay, which one would you rather see developing Knights of the Old Republic III? There are rumors suggesting Obsidian, but nothing's certain until the press release. I know I would like to see Bioware as the developer... that may be just me thinking about BGs though, but I really think that Bioware does a better job at story telling than Obsidian (Yes, I remember that KotOR 2 was a rushed release, but still...).

I'm not convinced that Bioware have done anything good story-wise since Shadows of Amn. Throne of Bhaal didn't satisfy me personally, though we did get resolution for the BG storyline. Neverwinter Nights storylines were pretty ordinary as well. Even KotOR didn't really have a great original storyline, though I accept it was an excellent game. Jade Empire is supposed to be more original, but I haven't played most of it. To a certain extent there last few games have been cliched, and not up to the standard they set with BG 1 and SoA.

Obsidian were at least trying something different with KotOR 2, and to a lesser degree with NWN 2. They may not have been perfect games, with less polish than I'd like and dreadfully flawed endings, but there was something about them that kept me interested in a way that NWN 1 and even KotOR 1 failed to do.

Back from the brink.

I vote Bioware. I agree that Kotor didn't have a very original storyline (I'm not gonna go in to the NWN one again... Bioware pretty much admitted the OC was mostly an afterthought), but the level op polish and depth I've seen in Bioware RPG's is still unmatched; neither Obsidian nor the original Black Isle has been able to convince me, and even less so Bethesda or any other developer (although I'd like to see Blizzard try their hand at a full-blown singleplayer RPG).

Kotor 2 had every evidence of a rushed release, but NWN2 does not, and I am personally not satisfied with the level of polish or character depth that came out of that one. In fact, the few times the game was really, really good (the trial, for example) I thought "this could have been made by Bioware"; the rest of it quickly convinced me it was not.

I voted Obsidian. Neither KotORII or NWNII are bad games, and both were extremely rushed by the publisher. I figure I just want to see what Obsidian can do when/if they have enough time to develop a game.

I voted for someone else, but as that someone else is 'Black Isle,' I don't really know if the vote counts

I'd have to say Bioware...they started Kotor, so it would be fitting for them to finish it. The whole Revan storyline anyhow (this to me being the final chapter in the saga that is Star Wars). And I think Bioware did a better job at a lot of 'little things' in the game...like sidequests, locations, etc... small things like this that further add to the games overall appeal. Obsidian did the best they could though...following up on the 'Game of the Year for 2003' couldn't of been easy (especially with Lucas breathing down their necks) but they did their best and I respect that, even if it wasn't fully finished...yeah, so their mechanics were kinda sloppy and the graphics wern't as 'fine cut' as Biowares but like I said they did the best they could on the follow up. Still, I think the story lacked a 'certain something' in the second, sure the writing was very well done (as were the voiceovers, except for Visas anyway) but the first had a much more solid story I think, venturing after the Star Maps trying to find the Star Forge and all, I think in the second too many times you were wondering 'just where the hell is the story going' and in the end when you finally figured everything out there was a huge letdown of an ending...on the other hand even though you didn't see much of him I still enjoyed Obsidians created Sith Lord Nihilus...and Sion for that matter, each one had their own unplaygurized uniqueness...much better than the horrific sidekick 'Darth Bandon' in the first anyways.

I think the series sort of reflects the movies in some way, in that each movie (at least the original trilogy) had it's own feel to it, same goes for the games...I believe looking back on whoever tackles the daunting task that is the third Kotor we will see a nice culmination of the story...

And it may just be that Lucas is looking for somebody new...maybe that's why their taking so damn long. Perhaps their trying something on here, giving each separate company a chance at what they do with the Title...Kotor I- Bioware, Kotor II- Obsidian, Kotor III- ???, but more than likely the obvious choice would be the correct one, that is Obsidian finishing everything off with their interpretation of the third...with the cliffhanger ending they left I think their the frontrunners for sure... -_-

In anycase it'll be quite some time until we see anything on Kotor III and the game itself...in my book its still a few years away, possibly late 2008 or early 2009...if then I wonder. :crying:

I voted for, and I would like it to be, Bioware, however I very much doubt that they will be doing it. They've contracted on for three games for the xbox 360 Mass Effect with a lot of resources being used on that. Also there is Dragon Age, although I won't hold my breath on that ever being released this centuary.

If it does happen, at all, it probably will be Obsidian. Unless they actually pay attention to the extensive feedback they have received for Kotor 2 and NWN2 and develop a sequel with in depth characterization and a decent ending, I won't be playing it. (Well I might if it's quickly at a bargain basement price, not a good sign, or free. ;) )

Well...whenever it comes out I'll still be waiting for it. I'm really interested to see how it all ends...like I said above though, it could take awhile...hopefully Lucasarts will choose a company before E3 to at least give the Knights fans some consolation that it's being done, because between you and me I'm getting sick and tired of all these damn rumours...after they make their choice on the company they should step up and announce who's doing it to silence all the rumours.

By the way E3 is being pushed back to July 2 this year... ^_^

It may be real. But it could change as well.

It seems that Bioware got over 70% of the votes. Any ideas about who should publish the game? Not Atari I hope? ;)

Question is academic: it's gotta be LucasArts - they publish everything that has anything to do with Star Wars. :)

Yea, I'd imagine ol' Lucas wouldn't let anyone publish his games... ;) At least we can be sure that it's not Atari (Atari = Evil). BUT... do you think some other publisher could do better by it? Not rushing it and everything? Just consider it a theoretical question.

I'm still going with Bioware, though personally I'd like to see them both work on it, both companies have areas where they are going to be somewhat better then the other.

My biggest issue is that Obsidian ended up getting rushed with KOTOR 2, and while I enjoyed that game, I liked KOTOR better, the gameplay was well-balanced compared to KOTOR 2; and personally I loved the storyline for it, it may not have been as original, but it was better written.  And hell, I'll admit, my favorite NPC was Juhani, and I think only Bioware would give us something like that again, though if Obsidian could prove me wrong, that's cool too.. Either way I know I'll be buying it for PC when it comes out.

KotOR II being rushed wasn't due to Obsidian, it was ordered by Lucas Arts ;)

 Too true, the guys obsessed with money...and I'd bet my life on the fact that Lucasarts will be publishing it (even though it seems they don't give a damn about it)...there not just going to let some company like EA step in and take away their franchise. Maker I prefer- Bioware. Why? Many, many reasons but all boil down to one simple fact- Kotor I was better than II...but I think both Obsidian and them working on it would be best...regardless it'll be bare minimum a few years until we see anything on Kotor III...sad really. <_<

There hasn't been any official confirmation, so everything is to be treated as rumors at the moment.
