I have been made a victim of the Beregost crash!

I've run the crash fixer to no avail, and would like to send a copy of my BALDUR.SAV file; who/how to I send this?

Thanks!

Attached is a .zip file containing the savegame folder.

I am running BGT, this is the second time through on the same install, so I know it isn't one of the mods that causes it; I have inlcuded my Weidu log regardless in case there is an errant mod

Thanks!

Hmm, well the save game fixer isn't working for you because you haven't even visited the area yet!
A mod (or something) has caused your AR6700.ARE to go funny.

Can you:
1. Go to your command prompt
2. Navigate to your BGT-WeiDU installation directory
3. If WeiDU.exe isn't already present, make a copy of Setup-***.exe and rename it to WeiDU.exe
4. Type in the command prompt 'weidu --change-log AR6700.ARE >> log.txt'
5. Quit command prompt
6. Open up log.txt, newly created in your BGT-WeiDU installation directory
7. Copy and paste the textual contents here

?

Could you also attach AR6700.ARE from your override directory (if present) here? You might have to rename the extension to something like .txt.

Here is the text from the log file:

[weidu] WeiDU version 20800
[./CHITIN.KEY] 266 BIFFs, 50874 resources
[./dialog.tlk] 135048 string entries
[weidu] Using scripting style "BG2"
[BGT/Language/English/prompts.tra] has 45 translation strings
[BGT/Language/English/setup.tra] has 71 translation strings
[BGT/Language/English/dialog.tra] has 31 translation strings
[BGT/Language/English/journal.tra] has 319 translation strings
[BGT/Language/English/scripts.tra] has 24 translation strings

Mods affecting AR6700.ARE:
00000: /* from game biffs */ ~SETUP-BGT.TP2~ 0 0 // Baldur's Gate Trilogy - Core

The only location where AR6700.ARE existed was in game folder\BGT\modify\ARE
I have included a .zip file for it.

I am also including a .zip file from another savegame where I have been to Beregost and never had a crash occur.

Problem solved? Kind of.  I reverted my graphic settings back to the default 800x600 mode and problem solved, I am in Beregost and tossing back pints with Marl.  However, now I am on the mission to figure out how to get back to 1024x768 without this happening again.

Sorry for the chase, but thanks for the help!

No worries, some of these crashes are just plain weird.

Hi. Having the Beregost Crash myself now, and I can't work around it. Double-clicking the fixer doesn't work, and using the command line brings the error: "Windows couldn't find JAVA."

If I use the command line in CMD, I get "Java is not known as an internal or external command, program or batch file."

Any ideas about what's up?

(I'm using Java 6.0.1 and Vista 64)

I think the PATH variable hasn't been set for your Java Runtime Environment.

Do you know where your java.exe file is?

You'll have navigate to the directory that contains java.exe, and then type in 'java -jar <directory path to the Crash Fixer>/BeregostCrashFixer.jar'

e.g.
My java.exe is in C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\

Then
java -jar G:\Games\InfinityEngine\BeregostCrashFixer.jar

Only a really little small issue. ^_^

But it is possible, that you rename your readme.txt in the BeregostCrashFixer13.zip like readme_crashfixer.txt or something else, should be a new "Beregost Crash Fixer" version come out?

Otherwise if someone extract the BeregostCrashFixer13.zip in the BG2 main directory the readme.txt can/will overwrite the original readme.txt of BG. Only to think of it, when you must update this tool. :)

Greetings Leomar

A Megamod does not mean that you can play all of the mods or all of their content,
but you have more choices or paths through the game.

OK. I'll just update the archive with a changed readme filename then without changing anything.

UPDATE: Done. I've just renamed the readme to BeregostCrashFixer.txt. Anyway, there is no need to extract the zip to the BG2 directory at all, FYI.

That was fast. Thank you very much. :)

If we start to translate the readme in German is it possible that we can translate the tool, too and include the German text for German users?

Feel free to translate it. I'll have to make changes to the code to support internationalisation rather than have multiple version of the utility floating around.

When you have this bug, does it make it so your corrupted save does not appear in the save list at all when loading a game? I was entering a house in Beregost. Then I had BSOD. Now when I attempt to start BG1 and load the quicksave, that save does not even show though the folder exists on the HD.

If so, I am affected. I tried your tool, but it states "Invalid file: E:\BaldursGateTutu\save0000001-Quick-Save\BALDUR.SAV (invalid save game file header)"

I have attached the save I am trying to fix if someone can help.

I thought to report this though I am not sure it's right.

Every time I played BGT, I never get any crash when in Beregost but I often happen to get a QTD (quit to desktop) sometimes when I leave the city.

I can safely load the autosave though and the problem is so easily solved.

I'll have a look, but I think your save is in dire straits and you may have start all over if you don't have a backup save to work with.

OK, your saved game is absolutely hosed, full of 0s. Usually, system crashes when saving a game are unrepairable and bring ill tidings. I'm sorry that this had to happen.
