Hi,

Finally picked up the courage to install BP, been daunted by the information flying around!  Found erebusant's install guide...excellent work, gave me the incentive to try it out!!!

But, hit a snag.  All went well until I tried installing BP, install failed, the debug file shows many "warnings" but only one "error".  Can anyone help?

I have attached a cut down version of the debug file showing where the errors have arisen - if anyone needs the whole debug file I will send it.  I did mistakenly install Ascension and Spell50, not sure if this is part of the problem, also added in quite a few item and small mods.

Thanks all!  And hat's off for all the effort you guy's have gone to!

Install again without Tactics, Ascension and Dark Ritual. They are all (or parts of them) in BP. That is probably your problem.

Thanks ronin,

Does this mean I can uninstall using the mod setup files then re-run BP? What about Spell50 (Weimer) and redemption should I lose these as well?

don't install Spell-50; Redemption should be ok (i can never remember...)

the only killer error on that list is:

ERROR: [UDARDUL.CRE] -> [override] Patching Failed (COPY)

some mod has corrupted this file, and so BP is failing when it tries to patch it. if you find this file in yr overide folder and remove it, then BP should install (assuming, perhaps unwisely, there aren't other files corrupted in yr override folder).

most of the other errors can be safely ignored. most of them come from Tactics overwriting game files with it's own versions; they won't cause a crash, they just won't give you expected BP behaviour. no-one should be installing Tactics these days anyway: it's been years since it was revised, and it will break lots of things. that's the whole reason most of the Tactics components were included in BP years ago.

Thanks seanas,

Did just that and re-installed BP, installed OK according to the log, but when I started a game to check, found the cahracter creation screwed up, when picking weapon profs, saw duplicated weapon types (eg flail appears three times, sling appears twice but one of them has the description for dagger) oh, and the single weapon, two-handed weapon, sword & shield etc don't appear at all!

Guess that's the sign of a messed installation eh?

I saved a copy of my entire BGII folder pre-small mod install, should I try and copy it over the messed up install and re-install small mods leaving out those you mentioned?
Thanks again,
Sam

that's a pretty messed up install: to overwrite the files in the character screen takes some effort (that's effort on the part of the mod author, not on yr part) so you've installed something horribly incompatible, or possibly stuffed yr install.

given you've got a BGII backup (pre-small mods), my suggestion would be to start a new game using the backed up folder, to make sure this works. if the character creation process works properly here, then add one mod at a time and test with a new game each time. if yr mods are all weidu (which they must be, basically), then if you find you've installed one that breaks yr game, then just uninstall it, and everything will work well again.

if yr new game from yr backed up folder is also broken, however, you'll need to start from the very beginning: delete yr entire BGII folder and backups, and start from a fresh install of BG2-TOB.

Thanks seanas,

Copied over my pre-small mods folder and re-installed small mods excluding those I did not trust and maybe weren't all that useful (esp. Improved Anvil and Stuff of the Magi  ), seems to work now! :)

Just got to get into it now ^_^ .

Thx again
