Alright...

I have Baldurs Gate & expansion, BGII & expansion, and I was about to install them again for a bit of fun. I'm intending playing right through from start to finish - I do this every few years with Eye of the Beholder series, so why not Baldurs Gate too.

I remembered that I'd seen some mods, fixes and enhancements around for Baldurs Gate, so I thought I'd have a search around and see what I could uncover.

Lots of dead links, and sites that no longer exist :(

Anyway, I found this one, and I've followed a link to an FTP directory showing many different files.

I don't want to learn how to mod Baldurs Gate... just want to play it with the best experience I can.

So I've started by trying to read the mod instructions, and I've run around in circles.

I'd like to run Baldurs Gate Trilogy - i.e. the thing that adds Baldurs Gate 1 into Baldurs Gate 2. I'd like to add in the various different bugfix/enhancements as well as any extra areas/quests/stuff that's around.

But when I try to work out if I have the right files downloaded, and the right instructions, I haven't a clue, and I've now developed enough of a headache to prevent me trying to work out any more.

So far this is what I think I need.

Baldurs gate installed, with expansion, patched to 5512.
BGII installed, with expansion patched to 26498.

I then drop the files from BGT101-Install.rar (instructions say 100, but since 101 is there I can only assume it's a bug fix) into the Baldurs gate 2 directory, and launch Setup-BGT.

Following the steps in the installation I get to 6. Post-installation: Baldur?s Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast music and Graphical User Interface (GUI) installation ? see here. The 'see here' link is dead.

Then it talks about the mega modification - I don't see this anywhere to download.

Anyone able to offer me some help?

Okay. Just need to get a few things straight, so bear with me. Do you have BG1, the Original Saga or just BG1? You added the Patch for BG2 ToB before anything else right? Do you want to add anything besides BG Trilogy? And what dead link? There wasn't one in your post. Also, what dead links? Thanks!

Thanks for replying :)

I don't believe I have 'The Original Saga' (Does it offer anything over the normal BG1 and expansion?). I purchased Baldur's Gate and it did come with Tales of the Sword Coast, but the box doesn't refer to Original Saga.

That's where the dead links are.

I haven't patched BG2, ToB, but I will patch it to the required version before I do anything. I'm not going to start installing stuff until I think I've at least some idea of what I'm after.

I'd like as complete a Baldurs Gate experience as possible, if there's content to add, great. I don't want to end up with way too much added content that the game isn't what it should be. But a reasonable amount of extra stuff/fixes/tweaks would be great.

The Original Saga adds the Ulgoth Beard section and does not require a patch. I am unfamiliar with the expansion version, but from what I do know, only the Original Saga does not require a patch, so chances are you need to dl the patch. Do install patches on both BG1 and BG2 before any mods and for the best experience, do a full install of both.

If you wish to add more content, there are tons of mods out there that really help to keep the game interesting, especially if you have played it dozens of times, as most people here have. Now, the BG1 mods that I have seen require TuTu in order to play them, but apparently Trilogy does not (if I am reading the ReadMe correctly). It really just depends on what you are looking for in the game.

Now onto your Step 6 problem. I see what you mean about the site being down. I'll drop Ascension a note for you and see if he can figure this one out. :)

Thanks. Just looking to start it right, not get frustrated, and run through the whole game, start to finish, from Candlekeep to Throne of Baal.

What's Ulgoth's Beard?

As far as what content to add.... care to make any suggestions?

Looking for stuff that's 100% functional, I really don't want to have to restart because content that I added messed things up, Also any enhancements that would make the game better - I think the trilogy thing is a big enhancement since it allows me to play BG1 using the BG2 engine - will it allow me to start characters with kits, and use the classes that aren't available?

if the dragon's hoard is down (or even if it isn't), you'll find every file you need (including, i'm reasonably sure, readmes) at:

Tried from a command prompt as well... will try reinstalling BGII to the default directory.

Helps if I actually stick the folder in, rather than just the two files. DOH!

Don't worry about this dead link. This is what you need to know :

BGT-WeiDU, once installed, created (or added) two specifics GUIs. You need to select one of the two BGT-WeiDU GUIs to get BG1 Music in the game. Once in BG2, you need to select another GUI (possibly removing the GUI at all) to get BG2 Music. Selecting a GUI is easy : run Setup-GUI.exe, preferably at the end of your installation.

Ah yes. Only the readme is available in the mirrors. The actual archive has the full readme and post-install section, since it doesn't quite make sense to have a post-install before installation. In future versions I'll try and save the confusion by removing such links from the readme (rather than just duplicating the english readme on the servers).
