I have the same problem. When I enter the CC, BG2 just CTDs. I've tried the files Seanas uploaded, including starting a new game and CLUAing to the CC. It CTDs anyways.
I've been trying to install BG2 + mods for almost a week now. Only mods that are explicitly stated to be compatible. Everytime I think it's working but then some new problem pops up. It gets kind of frustrated. I just want to play :crying:

Did you also clear the cache and temp folders, try taking out beast master ect.. ?

Does it also CTD on loading screen, or the area loads then crashes?

Can you upload your AR0406.ARE and AR0406.BCS as attachments here.

Ok, it just happened to me too, but travelling from Riatavin to Nalias keep. Since Riatavin says "unreachable" I clua in and out to do quests. This time I tried to walk from there to keep. It quick saves game ok, then when loading area gets almost finished (3/4) it CTD. On another try it just froze my computer. I've had to clua a lot, could that be affecting it?

I'll try clearing cache and temp and check it out.

If you're familiar with DLTCEP, you can try opening the ARE in it and checking all the actors. I guess the problem is corruption of one or more CRE files referenced from the area file.

When you open AR0406.ARE, choose "Actors" tab, and for each creature try pushing "Embed it", then "Edit creature". Whichever creature fails to load properly and displays error message - is the culrpit. Even if it loads w/o error message, use "Check Creature" button to make sure.

I had similar problem with Adventurer's Mart. Some mod corrupted one of the actors inside (it was new merchant), and the game was freezing during area load. I used the method above to discover the faulty creature, and solved it by restoring the backup version of CRE file.

Good advice. I shall try that. The problem is, when the crash first occured, I dropped the ar006.are and the ar406.wed that Seneas uploaded elsewhere in this thread, in my override folder. They overrode nothing, so I assume those area files were stored somewhere in a bif right? When I dropped those files in my override, it changed nothing. The crash still happened. So that subscribes your point about the corrupt actors. The only question is, where can I find the original ar0406 files that are overridden now by Seneas' files? Aside from my crash-problem, if I manage to fix it, shouldn't I use the "original" ar0406 files that were used by my installation before I dropped Seneas' ones in my override? Because maybe Seneas' files don't have the same npcs in them as my original files have. Can you still follow me? ;)

just remove seanas' versions from your override, and everything shall be as it was.

incidentally, yes, they probably are inside a bif.

As far as I understand, ARE files don't store all info about creatures inside (they're way too small to include everything), they contain only data such as creature positioning and reference to the source CRE. So, if one of the creatures is corrupt, it might as well be faulty CRE file which is causing your crash. In this case, replacing ARE and WED files with those posted by seanas will give you nothing - because they contain same references to same faulty CREs.

Now it happened to me. Saves game and 95% load area - then freeze (BG is not responding). However, cleaning out temp and cache, and restarting computer worked. :D

If it helps someone else - this is exactly what happened:

1)I'm in ch3, waited to do slaver quest till now. Had just picked up Yoshi and Kachiko from Sea's Bounty. Rest of party - PC, Aerie, Drizzt, Wulfgar.
2)Watch duels, go in back and kill every guard including Beastmaster.
3)Free Hendak, kill Lehtinan, go through underground tunnel and pick up Lilacor.
4)Finish cleaning out slaver ship, leave as normal.
5)Leave ship through door to slums, back to CC, and bam - freeze.

Like everyone else had been to CC a million times with no problems till now. Only difference was Yoshi/Kachiko in party and just finished slaver quest. Everything works fine for me now though. Maybe one of these is the culprit?

(My install - NEJ2/SOS/TDD/TS/ROT plus a few small mods)

I have recently eleminated this problem. It was caused by Nalia CRE, which is bugged in the original BG2. That is why frequently crashes both CC and Nalia's Keep area. The patch is included in Baldurdash.

Now since I did not include Baldurdash, do you think that I will have a prob? I DL'ed Bdash 1.64, can I apply it now? or should I go for a clean install if I can't, and can expect the same when I finally get to the BG 2 section. I am currently in the SoBH area on the first part of the mod (ready to hit the ruined castle) Any advice? (advice on whether I should full install again or patch with baldurdash that is, not the SoBH mod :P ) If it is Nalia.cre that is causing the prob, is there a way to post a corrected Nalia.cre? I am asking this for all the folks that have gotten so far into the game with the mega install, and would most likely want to open a vein rather then go through another massive install.
