Escape1sm, I hope you read thru this entire thread as most of your points would have been covered. Also some good workarounds in here.

What you're asking about bundling the mods together is actually making all the separate mods into one big mod. Not gonna happen. Nobody's gonna invest their life to do that. Plus there is no indication that that would remove or reduce the stuttering. End of story.

You have read the thread about the largest MegaInstall? They use 10 times more mods than the rest of us. No one from their team has reported stuttering -- and I am sure they would if it happened.

It's been said before - many times - but it's important to repeat: stuttering is not caused by any one or two things; it follows no reason, no rhyme; it is not consistent amongst mod lists. One person gets terrible delays, another player same list has no problem at all. Some have trouble with NPC scripts, area scripts, bags/cases, etc., but others do not.

I currently have 2 not-unlimited Bags of Holding and no stuttering. But in other games I had 1 not-unlimited Bag of Holding and got stutter-slammed.

Yes i did read through, and as you say, theres so many reasons why it can happen, especially as we're not all using the exact same install list/install versions.

when i posted, it was primarily to air a dream of having an expansion pack based on all the mods from this and other sites, but thats what it is, a dream.

when i posted about my stutter/lag (whatever you want to call it), it was as an afterthought, i was just bringing it to the modders attention, it wasnt done in a 'your to blame, sort it out now' kind of way.

i had a stutter problem, but after thoroughly reading everything on this site about it, i first tried turning the sound off/graphics to a minimum, didnt work, i then dumped all bags/cases, which worked.

i havent a clue why, but i came here first, read about it, followed instructions and hey presto its back to normal.

as for an amalgamation not sorting this out, wrong, it would, because every t would be crossed and every i would be dotted, and all those little errors, i.e, missing continues, that for the most part, aren't interferring, they would be rectified, and i believe it would remove stuttering, but as ive already said, its a dream of mine, so im being realistic about it never happening. End of story.
You're jealous 'cause the voices are only talking to me

Hallo Everyone

Very interesting discussion on the course of stutter in the game. I my self have had some problems with this, so I am just curious if anyone in here has some input that might help me along.

I am playing a mega-install, weidu-log appended below, and everything has worked splendid with no transition issues or slowdowns/stutter. That is until the Never Ending Journey part of the game. Here the stutter slowly creeps in and the game becomes unplayable with stutter every second, by the time I reach The Dragons Eye.

I have tried the following to reduce stutter, but alas to no avail, so help would be greatly appreciated.

Lowering graphic options and sound to minimum ? no effect and the game ran perfectly in Irenicus? Dungeon with maxed graphical options.

Removing all bags ? No effect, but in NEJ they seem to stay at the ground indefinitely so maybe they still effect the game?

Kicking out all party members in case their scripts somehow influence the game ? No immediate effect, maybe their scripts are still running in the backgrund?

Removing all BSC files from the override directory and loading the game ? No effect, but there are a lot of BSC files in the NEJ directories, maybe you have to try to remove them as well?

Clearing the cache and the temp folder ? No effect

Just an FYI. I had the stutter bug when I started the Drizzt Sage. Once I had Drizzt in my party it started (dropping all bags lessened it somewhat), once I talked to Regis and he sent us to the Hells it stoped. A script was running checking to 'see' Regis, he would then run over to the party. My guess is that much of the stutter bug(s) is that script(s) are running in the background (they may be building up from differnt modes).

Well, I have Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Dar and Hrothgar, but when I kick them out of the party, I don't experiance any less lagging. I have noticed that Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc use their Irencus Dungeon dialog when kicked out, but otherwise they work well in NEJ participating in and initiating dialogs and so on.

I also returned to Kuldahar to see if there would be less lag there, but it seems that when the lagging/stutter starts it follows me around ;-).

The only time I don't experiance lag is when I'm at the inventory screen or the journal.

I read somewhere that it could be the gradually disintegrating drow equipment that is causing the slowdown, but how do i uninstall that?

I've played the same game for many months now and I don't have time to start over, so any help would be greately appreciated.

You don't have any stacks of arrows or bullets that are huge do you? Also, could you post your Baldur.bcs file?

I did have a few thousand bolts and arrows, but I droped them on the ground when the stutter began. I also tried to sell all my equipment to see if that would help, but it didn't.

I appended the BSC file.

I noticed something interesting when I adjust the frames per second the characters will move faster or slower and so will the clock in the bottom, but the lag happens at the same interval no matter the frames per second.

I read that the number of files in the override folder could cause a problem, but only if there's more than 1 Gigabyte and mine is 250mb, though there's more than 18.500 files and my computer halts for a second when I open the folder.
I never cleaned up the differents mods after the mega-install, as I didn't know how to do it. I 've seen some people talking about biff routines, but I'm not sure what that is.

Thanks for the interest in my troubles.

Try the attached and see if it gets any better. You didn't just start the SoS quests with the documents from the room upstairs in the Copper Coronet did you?

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately it didn?t work. I just had to replace the BALDUR.bsc file in the override directory, right?
I also tried to temporarily remove all bsc files from the override directory, but that didn?t do anything either. Can the game be accessing bsc files from other directories? The NEJ folders have quite some bsc files in them as well.

I?m playing a BGT mega install with most of the large mods installed including Never Ending Journey (NEJ); see my post above for details. This was the first install that I got to run really well.
I crossover to BGII, take care of the Candle Keep Chores and after clearing the first level of Irenicus Dungeon and entering the portal, NEJ kicks in and sends me to Icewind Dale, so I never enter The Copper Corronet. The lagging doesn?t show before a little in to the game in NEJ.

~BG2_TWEAKS/SETUP-BG2_TWEAKS.TP2~ #0 #1050 // Gradual Drow Item Disintegration

as far as i know, just run the tweak pack again but individually ignore each component till you get to this one, then select uninstall.

I noticed something interesting when I adjust the frames per second the characters will move faster or slower and so will the clock in the bottom, but the lag happens at the same interval no matter the frames per second.

That reminds me of the problem I had when I installed bottomless bags of holding. I started off BGII being a collector freak, in that I kept wanting to keep all my items and loot in the exact proportions from game to game. Anyways the important thing is that I found that having all those items in the bottomless bag was creating some really bad stuttering. It was exactly with the clock, it would swing and then tick at the exact same spot.

The same thing happens with thousands of arrows and what not stacked ontop of each other. The game still registers them for some reason, even though it lessens some of the lag because it isn't in the inventory. I know this is at least true for the bag of holding because it doesn't matter if I just drop it, I have to delete it using ShadowKeeper.

I first noticed this because I would add in a bag of Holding with all the items in it, by decompressing and splicing the bag04.sto file and replacing the game saved game data with the new one. Once I added in my bag with all my items, game went immediately from Irenicus smoothness into periodic stutters.

Also adding in thousands of ammo into the ammo belt might be the same as adding thousands of items to a bag of holding, if the game sees each ammo count as an individual item.

It is hard to tell whether hundreds of ammo stacked together in your quiver slots are causing any lag, because you would have to delete enough of them to see a difference in game. And if it is small difference, the difference may be hard to see.

Most of my stutter problems went away once I stopped using and installing limitless bags and what not, and kept the ammo count down to a few hundred.

Btw, aren't you supposed to install the Fixpack first then Nej?

NeJ2 is not supposed to work in this installation at all. Why is the FixPack installed after NeJ2? Overwriting the mod's files is not a good idea.

I just loaded up a fresh install with a bunch of mods and was having the stutter problem even in Irenicus's dungeon. After looking at this thread (and seeing that SoS had 4000 lines of script for a single sword), I uninstalled SoS (keeping the rest of my mods) and my stutter went away.

Maybe this will help somebody else.

I just start to face the stutter problem when I play the TS part of the game. it started near the end of quest where you need to do 2 pit fight. after that my game start stutter. I guess it is some checking in the baldur.bcs which keep checking whether I take the katana which should not be taken out of the pit. I try replace the baldur.bcs and the stutter is gone.

I think this is triggered by some global values, anyone know which global and how to reset it so it will not check the katana everytime? Or how to edit the baldur.bcs file so that I can remove the checking itself.

My game was running super slow as well from the very start (At Irenicus' Dungeon). Now, I have wayyyy too many mods installed and my overes in thereide file was like 1.2GB so I figured that's the problem. I cleared up a lot of the files in there, took the overide down to about 850MB but the lag still remained. I removed SOS, but that didn't helped either. Finally I removed the first component of the Big Picture (the AI fixes and all) and voila, lag's gone. I reinstalled SOS, my current overide file is about 1.4GB, I have limitless Bags of Holding and a tons of other supposed possible lag causing mods and my games now run great at the highest performance.

I don't know why, but it's the BP that's causing the lag for me so until the next version's out, I'm not installing it anymore :(
