"...Guess who that may be. You cannot continue this way."

Ergh... well, I was romping through my BG2 monster install just fine (with the occasional bug here and there), and the game gives me this message and promptly kills me.
I'm guessing it's Hrothgar of NEJ2, as I blew him off and then CLUA'ed my way around the Spine of the World.

If that's not the case, however, I'm wondering, which mega-mod adds this and how can I possibly turn the damned thing off? Honestly, the nerve of some people...

This will not work!!! You would need to set many Globals yourself and know what they are!!

That's a little irritating, as I went through that entire section of the game relatively problem-free. (Even more irritating when I got stuck in town unable to do anything. Took me awhile to figure what was wrong. /sigh)

Guess I have to load an old game, then...

Shoot... so many hours lost...

I'm really amused to read this post. I've set several traps of this sort in NeJ2. People who misuse my mods will be punished. :new_bottom:

I know people who watch DVDs at FF x16, just not to miss anything from the film.

A visit to the mods forum at Black Wyrm would have given you just that hint.

Well I had a different one happen to me when I tried to wander off with some items that already belonged to someone. Kind of suprising when my main character had a heart attack walking down a set of stairs with them. It took a few reloads to actually pay attention to the warning and put em back. Whoops. I thought I had to give them to the person I was looking for. Nice one!

The last time I went there I saw no such thing, unless you're referring to the walkthrough or somesuch. In such a case, I believe it's customary to *avoid* such things during your first playthrough of a game. Just something that seems to defy common sense, personally...

isn't it also customary to avoid CLUAing through the game on your first playthrough too? I mean if you're going to be purist you need to be purist!

Eh, well, my MovetoArea'ing was more of a last-ditch attempt out of sheer frustration (wandering around Easthaven for close to an hour) to move on with my game than anything else. If there were some clear hints I would never have done such, so, yah.

Okay, something's seriously wrong, here...

Whenever I go down the stairs from the second floor of the Five Flagons in, I get the message I wrote above.

Thing is, this time, I've played through the game normally and finished NEJ2 just fine. So either it's not NEJ2, or something's really screwing around with me...

Oh, fie... Even worse, I bring the items for the quest (the letter and flowers) down to Thunderburp downstairs (I CLUA'd down there) and I get the NO VALID REPLIES OR LINKS problem. Geeeeze....

I've got this problem as well! Please help.. It's going to be really, REALLY bothersome to have to reclaim Hrothgar, since he's already left the copper coronet... I tried to CLUA him in, but it didn't have any effect... I didn't die when going into the five flagons, but thunderburp still had the "NO VALID REPLIES" message. I thought we were supposed to be done with Hrothgar after NeJ part 2?

I'm writing this purely from memory: The Five Flagons warning is due to NEJ2, it does something to either player1.DLG or .BCS, checking if the main char has an item or set a global or something. (Was it due to a NeJ2 component, or just general mod install?)

Look in those files, you'll be able to find the check and edit/remove it. I think.

Are you doing the Leina quests? I take it you finished the Halruaa quests with Hrothgar? I don't think he has to be with you for Leina/Samuel quest, just work for Bodhi, get the key from Garrol or whoever in the CC and go to Vulova estate. Samuel usually talks once you have done some of those events or you can choose to tell him you will not help.

This is where you learn the advantages of not installing mods from people who actively code such annoyances.

Italian users: help test the Stivan NPC!

Author or Co-Author: WeiDU - Widescreen - Generalized Biffing - Refinements - TB#Tweaks - IWD2Tweaks - TB#Characters - Traify Tool - Some mods that I won't mention in public
Maintainer: Semi-Multi Clerics - Nalia Mod - Nvidia Fix
Code dumps: Detect custom secondary types - Stutter Investigator

If possible, send diffs, translations and other contributions using Git.

Ok... I've deleted the entry in player1.dlg, so the character no longer dies.. but I'm still unable to talk to samuel thunderburp about the items. The only available reply says "no valid reply". It's not really that important, seeing as I can skip the Leina quest, but it is a rather annoying bug. T
his is what happens (without deleting the .dlg entry):

I enter the five flagons inn, talk to samuel thunderburp, then go upstairs to search Leina's room. When I try to go back to thunderburp, my pc initiates this dialogue: "I sense someone is missing from your party. Guess who that may be? You cannot continue this way."And my pc dies. If I remove the entry in the player1.dlg file, my pc doesn't die, but the only reply offered when talking to Samuel Thunderburp is: "No valid replies or links".

Maybe some events did not happen that are supposed to. Have you finished the actual Halruaa and saving Ulcaster parts? Hrothgar can be kicked after that unless you want him for more banters.

Quick fix trial-CLUA Hrothgar and have an empty spot in your party. Then ctrl+Q cheat and he will be in your party. Try that to get past that point.

This "feature" for Five Flagons doesn't concern Hrothgar at all, it's related to Leina.
I'm not sure you should delete player1.dlg - isn't it used for other parts of the game?

I think if you don't install the Leina component of NeJ2, and modify player1.dlg, all should be well.

In short, skip the thunderburp encounter, move on to the rest of your game.
