IWD1 and 2 on the 3rd edition rules, that is on the
engine of IWD2? It would be pretty cool i think...

But playing it as one game wouldn't work very well because it would end up being inconsistent. Not only was IWD2 originally designed to have you start with level one characters, the story takes place thirty years after IWD1 and treats you as a different set of heroes in the plot.
Too bad the project moving the BG series into IWD2 fell by the wayside. In my opinion, IWD2 was the best incarnation of the Infinity Engine.

It would have been, if sneak attack would have been working correctly(and not work like a lesser damage variant of backstab)

From a rules perspective, quite possibly. However, they removed all the code that handles party interaction and allowing NPCs to be joinable, which is why the BG2->IWD2 conversion ('Icewind Gate 2') died horribly.

Also from an interface perspective. Having the GUI completely at the bottom left your overhead view much cleaner and open-feeling.From a rules perspective, quite possibly.

However I'm sure that there are sequels to games out there that actually take place before the original, so slapping a 2 onto something doesn't always mean the same thing.

Ah you're right, my bad. I got the events confused: IWD 2 takes place before the Drizzt books, not IWD 1 (had to look up in the manuel).

There are plenty of sequels out there that take place before the original. That's why the term "prequel" was invented.
Although, in IWD2, there are plenty of references to IWD, so I thought it was obvious. Both games take place significantly before the Baldur's Gate series and both games take place before the Drizzt books.

In any case, I'm afraid I never actually finished IWD2. To be honest I got very bored of it. However there is Domi's NPC mod for it that hopefully when released, will bring more life to the game.

I dont understand why no one has ever tried making any major mods for the IWD series.

I really would like to see IWD1 and 2 merged into one game, with brand new areas and more quests and a new world map that covers all the areas! Of course, this would require some major storyline changes to IWD2.
I dont understand why no one has ever tried making any major mods for the IWD series.
The first project is already underway.

Nice idea. As to why... lack of interest (more dungeon crawl than rpg) and different coding than BG/BG2.

Are you referring to IWD tutu?
That doesnt merge the games or add content, it just ports IWD to the IWD2 engine.
And it seems to be dead anyway, the forum hasnt been updated in months.

(not Infinity engine based) that are 3rd ed. and are still being
improved like ToEE. Though I'd love to play IWD1 on 3rd edition
rules.
