Just to let everyone know in advance, there might be some downtime to come in the next few days, as the SHS host will be redistributing a large number of web hosting accounts to a fleet of new servers. As you might expect, this redistribution will result in highly increased website performance and speed (and maybe the sql error we've been seeing so often might occur less frequently...).

It will take approximately three days to complete the redistributions for all servers, and the host will begin the process mid-to-late next week. I've been assured that they have taken every precaution to ensure that downtime from these migrations is minimized, however we can probably expect to experience a minor outage as a result of the move.

How many days is a "few"? I'm still seeing that error a lot.

I get the "SQL error: User spellhol_forum has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections" quite often the last weeks/days. :(

I would gladly host Studios on my Geocities account which might resolve the problem.

I've been wanting to report the same thing for weeks. Sorry for being so lazy...

Oh I don't think that will be necessary Sim, but thanks for the offer. :)

We are currently working with the hosts to get the situation sorted out. Yes, I realize that we have been saying this, but hunting down all the bugs takes time. We really appreciate your continued patience and encourage you to keep posting the error messages that you receive so we can continue to work out the problems.

I've been getting that error fairly frequently too.

I'm beginning to wonder. If it is IPB, then you seriously got ripped off. There's free software out there with less bugs. Somehow, I bet that the host overbooked their servers though.

As much as I like to degrade payware / non-openware, G3 uses IPB too and it's reaally stable. So yeah, bets on overloaded server.

It's worth pointing out that the Studios database has really never, in its four years of operation, worked worth a damn, despite being hosted on a procession of different machines with other forum/database operations which were not so remarkably unstable. I'm inclined to think that's a legacy of it having been upgraded through the years from Invision 1.0/1.1 (which similarly didn't work especially well.)

Or it's those fething civfanatics, chasing down Studios wherever it may roam.

Thank you for the suggestions and insite. :) We are taking all of this into consideration.

Seb is out of touch right now so I am hoping to catch him in the morning before I go to class. I will leave him a message to get us an update just in case I miss him. :)

Perhaps while you're here you could also give an update on why you elected to extend my ban?

A request that will most certainly be met. Sim, check your PMs

I think he mentioned somewhere before that although he can see he has a PM, with his ban he cannot read them.

That is indeed true, however when Jolyth posted her answer, his suspension was over, therefore he can read the PM.

What have the hosts said about the situation?

After months of discussion back and forth, the only possible answer we both (i.e me and the ost) can agree on is that SHS is outgrowing the current shared hosting environment it's currently in.

Currently, I'm considering several offers on different kinds of dedicated servers, but it's not really an easy decision - and that's why it takes so long.

I would like to propose a scheme of compensation for every time I spend time typing a post and your forum eats it with a database error.
