Plunking through IWD1 and having incredible fun with Bombardier beetles that are paralyzing my two front grunts, despite the fact that they are each wearing a Ring of Free Action.
Anyone else recall this happening to them?

I found them a real PITA. My tactics were simple hit'n'run as they don't all move at the same speed. I waited for one to draw away from the others then beat the bejeesus out of it before running again. Equally, if you have the room or don't mind taking the damage a fireball does a substantial amount of the work for you.

I think my tanks were pretty good with their saving throws against paralyzation, although I did use my main character (mage) to hurl some fireballs at them, while the rest of the party stayed back.

I solved the problem by adding protection to Stun to the Ring of Free Action. In its description, it does say that it prevents all effects that affect movement. Being stunned affects movement in my book.
