Tattoos and a Shaven Head

First, let me say, THANK YOU for the delightful and hilarious mod. I appreciate it a great deal and found it excellent. Well done.
Second, I'm just curious on if something is gone into in the Mod or in Edwin's History; Why doesn't Edwin have a shaved head, and if he has Red Wizard of Thay Tattoos, where are they?
Red Wizards of They are known for several things in the world of Faerun. One is their immaculate cleanliness. They hate being dirty. To help with this, they practice permanent and almost ritualistic hair removal of body and head hair. Beards and mustaches are often left alone, because they're good to artistically groom and so on. Red Wizards also dislike appearing like the Rashemite Berserkers who have foiled them for so many years; the Rashemites almost NEVER cut their hair, also because they don't like appearing like the Thayvians.
So, why would Edwin have jaw length brown hair on his head? Did he just not like the idea of removing his locks? That does mean though that the rest of Edwin is likely hairless, though. Its just something the Thayvians do.
Also, Red Wizards are able to make Magic Tattoos that increase the power of their spells and the number of spells they can cast per day and much more. All Red Wizards are trained in this particular art. Where would Edwin's Red Wizard Tattoos be?
Hm. I could see him wanting to give <CHARNAME> a Magic Tattoo actually. For both the power it confers and if <CHARNAME> does become his wife.
I am curious. Does the Edwin Romance deal with either of these points?

So, why would Edwin have jaw length brown hair on his head?
Somehow I feel that the one to blame for the jaw lenght hair is me. There was a conversation on his hair here on the ERM forums, started by me actually. You can't see it in the portrait and it doesn't come up in the dialogues, but it seemed that most people thought that he has jaw lenght hair. This of course lead to my fan art which I've been posting here.. Well, the point of this rambling was that he doesn't necessarily have jaw lenght hair or even brown hair! You're free to imagine it yourself, as I did too, and naturally I drew him as I imagined him.
And his hair versus the Thayvian ways, well, the first one to blame is ofcourse Bioware. Why did they make a Thayvian mage character with hair AND beard?! As Arlaya already said, there is a possibility to get Edwin explain it in the mod, thanks to Laufey. And I guess having a dashing teacher with long black hair could have something to do with it too.. You never know how easily little boys are influenced and how it could last a life time.

If he does have a Succubus tattooed on his head, that makes a very, very great deal of sense and a good reason as to why he lets his hair grow.
However, where are his Magic Tattoos... hmm. I think this is a job for you again, Ilmatar. There are some good representaitons of Thayvian Magic Tattoos in the various Faerunean books.
On his back, perhaps?

You just want to see him shirtless. But yeah, that sounds like something I could do, when I get some pictures of the tattoos. So here I go => www.google.com

Here is a thought of a possible pose for you. Edwin standing with his back bare, probably wearing those red arabic style pants the Thayvians favor, to the viewer. His head turned, looking over his shoulder, his arm up and hand clenched in an arcane pose with magical red energy glowing from it. <CHARNAME> could be drapped on his front, looking over his other shoulder with her arms wrapped around him. Possibly even her bare leg on wrapped around his hip.
And, on Edwin's back, his Magic Tattoos glowing with power.
Now, if that isn't a 'Hero Shot', nothing is.
Just an idea.

-grins- No, I just know how much you all like Edwin Shirtless! I enjoy Edwin for other reasons then desire for his body.

*grins* Sounds a bit like the cover for one of Imoen's romance novels, I think. 'Wizards And Wenches', or similar. But yes, I'm sure Ilmatar could make a lovely drawing of it. She'd have a willing subject too - unlike Dekkie, Edwin would *adore* posing that way.
And as has already been stated previously in the thread, one of the romance dialogues does indeed give you the option to question Edwin about his lack of baldness.
Hm...isn't it odd that while we have a non-tattooed and non-bald Red Wizard, Minsc is both bald *and* has a tattoo? I think I've read that Rasheman men tend to favor longish hair and beards, but I could be mistaken I guess.

Oooh that sounds very nice. I'll see what I can do with my limited skills. I tried to find some pictures of Thayvian tattoos but all I could find was this:
So unless someone finds me better refs, I'll have to use my own imagination and it won't be rulebook stuff anymore.

You know, just earlier today we had a very serious conversation about this with a fellow ERM fan. She was absolutely sure that Boo has changed their brains, or how ever her theory went. I just blame it all on Bioware's illogical "masterminds". But anyhoo, Edwin wouldn't be nearly as attractive if he'd be bald. Thank you, Bioware. Anyway, now to sketch the hero pose!

Oh, you have a very good point there, Laufey. I, in fact, mentioned it on a thread in the NPC Interaction Mod's forum of my own ideas of Minsc's baldness and tattoo. It seems that, from Bioware's perspective, it was an exchange between himself and Dynaheir to bind them closer. The circle means something to Dynaheir's particular sect of Hathran. I forget the actual quote now...
Dynaheir reportedly had the mark of the Ice Dragon Berserker Lodge on her as well. Only not as promenantly.
So, that particular mystery is as explained as Edwin's own lack of Baldness.
Thank you once more for the delightful Mod. I'm going to enjoy playing it from the start of SoA to the end of ToB here very shortly.
And, yes, it does sound like the picture off the cover of one of Imoen's Romance Novels... but wow does it ever make Edwin seem all the more... awesome! B) (Definitely my all time favorite Mage of the BG Series)

Indeed. I agree that Edwin with hair is far better looking then a bald Edwin. If from a neutral, male perspective. I can't wait to see what that imagination of yours cools up. I ran a search myself for Thayvian Tattoos and found the same results, sadly. Nothing truely impressive or 'canon'. I think its best left up to your imagination, as its proven itself to be excellent.
I have enjoyed your art immensely on the threads with still working links(curse Photobucket and other such limited bandwidth hosts).
I am glad you like the idea for the pose, and I wish you the best of luck! I can't wait to see what you create!

xD I also found it weird the Minsc wasn't as Rashemaar were described. But then again, neither was Dyanheir. O.o She was black.

1. Ilmatar - still love that pose. >D
2. Umm - I am the ERM fanchild that Ilmatar said she was talking with about the switching theory and, eh....well, I think my theory's just as valid as Bioware having good taste!
not totally brainsafe?
(and if anyone wants to start a lynch mob, I'll be over *THERE* hiding behind the lovely talented Ilmatar and screaming like a girl because she told me there would be no lynching.)
Uh....this is meant with love?
No really, thanks for the mod - it is *most* awesomely written.
