Interestingly, I re installed WITHOUT ctb (but with all the other mods plus a few more), used dungeon be gone and the copper coronet loaded fine, I however have another computer with the same setup as before so I will give the area test a go with that.

Like I said, you'll have to spawn each creature in the ar0406 log from the console to see which is causing the crash. Also like I said, you can ignore the stuff in the 'all' log, as I don't think those areas are used in BG2 (it's mostly leftover junk from BG1 or something).

Got em... "scdur" and "gorje" crash the game when I spawn them. Sorry for the confusion... I'll get it eventually :P

Cool. The next step is to open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) to your game folder and do a 'weidu --change-log scdur.cre' etc. on the crashing CREs to see which mods they're from (more info on how to do that here). It doesn't look like CtB offhand, because most of those start with the cb prefix.

You were right, it was Tweek pack and UB apparently. I think it may be my install order (I was putting the tweeks on neer the front of my order)... that was something I paid much closer attention to when I re-installed without ctb.

Thanks for bearing with me... I think I may be slightly less n00bified now :P

Hi!

I've found a source of this bug and have a solution.

Unfinished Business mod has a bug in Gorje Hilldark and the Extended Illithium Quest component. It wrongly interpretes size of color field and uses WRITE_SHORT where we need to use WRITE_BYTE. I used UnfinishedBusiness v19 and bug is present here.

So right section for this quest should look like:

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////
// Gorje Hilldark and the Extended Illithium Quest //
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////

BEGIN @26

COPY ~ub/ubnull.itm~ ~override/ubgorje.xxx~ //null file to identify this component

EXTEND_TOP ~AR1401.bcs~ ~ub/gorje/U!1401.baf~  /* Temple Ruins */
EXTEND_TOP ~AR0406.bcs~ ~ub/gorje/U!0406.baf~  /* Copper Coronet */

COPY_EXISTING ~gorje.cre~ ~override/gorje.cre~
WRITE_BYTE   ~0x2f~      ~0x53~               /* fix hair and skin color */
WRITE_BYTE   ~0x32~      ~0x4f~
WRITE_ASCII   ~0x3fc~     ~RNDTRE02~           /* remove dryad's acorns */
REPLACE_TEXTUALLY "CHAM01" "CHAN01"

COPY_EXISTING ~scdur.cre~ ~override/scdur.cre~
WRITE_BYTE   ~0x2f~      ~0x53~               /* fix hair and skin color */
WRITE_BYTE   ~0x32~      ~0x4f~

COMPILE ~ub/gorje/gorje.d~
        ~ub/gorje/scdur.d~
        ~ub/gorje/u!dwarvs.d~
USING   ~ub/tra/%s/ubdialog.tra~

This fixes crash for me and also DLCTEP no longer complains on 'harmless inconsistence' in creature files GORJE.CRE and SCDUR.CRE.

I've read miloch posted a slightly better fix in the pocket plane group forum if you're interested.

As EvilMax explained, the problem is caused by Unfinished Business, so BGT really has nothing to do with it. This is not a BGT issue. Instead, UB has to fix this.

Of couse, interested. Please, post it here. And maybe BiG World project team will use it in their awesome project. Their fixpack v10.0.1 does not included this explicitly for now (but I did not checked whether resource fixer do it or not). But if UB team is active, this is probably not needed.

The additional fix is here, as the WRITE_ASCII could really screw up that CRE worse than the other stuff if something else has been done to it. And no, the UB folks aren't active unfortunately. It is a simple .tp2 fix though.

I'm sorry but how and when does this bug display itself?

I have indeed installed the component "extended ilithium quest" a couple months back (UB v19) in a (what I thought) a very stable BWP setup.

I have not played it yet though, and now when I saw this thread I went ahead and started it and spawned "scdur" and "gorje" right in irenicus dungeon, just for a test to see if my game is screwed.

But it did not crash. I also "movetoarea" to copper coronet and spawned both in there too. No crash.

When should it crash? and could my game somehow be fine even though I installed the component? or should I just reinstall? any advice? :) I don't want to play later only to find this bug upon me..

thanks!

Obviously, if it doesn't crash on your install, it doesn't crash :P. Due to the way UB was coded, it has a lot to do with mod inclusion and mod order.

Yeah yeah :P I see my question was worded a bit funny.

I don't know much of the coding in Baldur's Gate and how quest scripts works and whatnot, so I meant more like if there were a certain time where something triggers with these characters that makes the bug show itself. Which would explain why my game did not immedietly crash in irenicus dungeon when i spawned them.

For example the thread starter said it started to happen after about half the game. But, considering the time span, that person probably had a completely different problem :)

Anyway, thanks for explaining it Miloch! Glad i'm safe. Reinstalling this beast again (BWP) would be annoying :|

If it doesn't crash immediately on spawning those creatures, it probably won't crash at some later point (not this particular bug anyway) unless you add another mod or something, which could in theory hose those CREs if it touches them (again, because of the suboptimal way UB does WRITEs to them - might be stable in some installs but not others).
