Do you want to see prologue music re-instated for the textscreen, at the cost of downloading a few more MB (~2MB per language)?

The plan is this: I will get the various INTRO*.WAV files and remix the narration with the music from CDay1a.ACM. This will need to be done per language, so there is a separate English Chapter1 and German Chapter1 (and Polish Chapter1 eventually, or even French Chapter1 if the translation gains enough support). Performing this remix will produce a new WAV file that I will encode as OGG for reduction in archive size of BGT-WeiDU. However, this still means an increase in ~2MB per language of BGT-Install.rar. I need enough support or comment, particularly from low-end users who have a 56.6kpbs modem or worse, before I will include this in the installation. Therefore, if you are one of these, please include a reply about your thoughts on this idea. However, feel free to comment if you are high-end user with LAN, CABLE, T1, ADSL, or better, but please make it clear to me what type of connection you use.

Thanks in advance, and may the best comment win...a cookie! :cookie:

I want to keep the download low (to keep it from being too much larger than TuTu). Can we make it an optional download or a BGT-WeiDU and a BGT-LT-WeiDU?

I think making it a seperate download, and the installer detects whether you have it or not when it installs would be cool. I personally wouldn't mind 2 more mb-- but I'm on ADSL. Others might. :)

Ascension64 knows exactly how I feel about this but I'll throw it in here anyway. I absolutely would love to see Music correctly implemented in BGT-WeiDU because I do believe it's worth. Probably music is the best aspect of Baldur's Gate 1. Far superior to the sequel, in my opinion. So I consider some extra megabytes a really small price to pay for getting it on BGT-WeiDu. Of course it's really fine for me if it comes as optional as long as it comes! :D

By the way, we should investigate perhaps if the same kind of problem comes with playing introductions of other chapters (since I believe each has its own music theme)...Thanks!

Well, Gorion's death textscreen doesn't have any music at all...not sure about the others. Maybe someone who has actually played classic BG1 can tell us, because I haven't.

I'd like it, but I am also running a cable connection so dl sizes arent too big a deal. Optional component might be the way to go.

Music and NPC banter are what make BG so good and gives it such a high replayability factor, so I'm all for it.

I had a 56k connection, but since a few days I now have a 512k ADSL :woot:

Well, 4 languages * 2 MB double BGT-Weidu's size. Downloading BGT-Weidu ZETA takes approximatly 1 hour with a 56k connection (average speed of 3 KB per second). Doubling this time just for adding some music in the chapter one text screen seems to be a little much for me. Most 56k connections are not unlimited (if you exceed your monthly connecting time, you will have to pay), at least it works that way in France, I don't know for foreign countries.

You can do like Yasraena mod, and release two versions of your mod at the same time : a "light" version with only text materials, and a "full" version with additionnal music and sound files whatever you like it, for the ones with high speed connections. It may be too much hassle, however.

I find music, graphics & sound effects little more than a novelty, so I don't care much for this myself.

However, I seem to be in the minority so the extra music with the intro would be appreciated by a number of people, such as those who have already posted.

What I would recommend is that you have a separate ~2MB download per language. Is that possible? I know little about Weidu or IE, but you could provide the standard BGT archive without the musical intro, and put in the readme that if you want the music, download the additional file for your language.

How is the intro done at the moment? If it is just copied over from BG1, then seperating the intro also means that languages that aren't supported yet just install without the music and hear the intro in their language until someone gets around to adding the music to it.

I use an ISDN conection, so a theoretical maximum of 128k (I think). Adding 4-6 MB wouldn't prevent me from downloading it, but it would have a noticable impact on the time taken to download it.

The intro WAVs are currently copied straight from BG1, and can still remain that way with unsupported languages, i.e. I will add an "International English" installation that will retain whatever language is officially unsupported.

I'd suggest putting it in a separate mod. (If you want, you can put it in "Tutu Casting Sounds", which contrary to the daft misnomer will work fine with BGT and isn't just casting sounds anyway, but that would have the opposite offset in that it's already 16MB.)

Sim wins the cookie! Hooray!

It seems most people want it optional, so a separate mod it will be, and the English remix is now available. See the BGT-WeiDU Mod Releases thread for more information. Please note, this mod will also work with TuTu, so whoever is admin over at PPG can announce this as well.
