When i started a new game imoen was a lv10 fighter!!! there were no theif abilites!! i thought she was supposed to be a swashbuckler not a fighter! Have i installed in the wrong order?

I had same probelm when I didn't install new HLAs.

This component used to require the HLA system in order to be installed, and removing that requirement must have been somewhat tricky.OK, I can replicate the bug. However it's only a cosmetic one, as she gets correct class abilities nevertheless.
Yet, I'd re-introduce it if we cannot solve the problem otherwise.
(let me catch the moment to thank the_bigg once again, who is covering all of the authors' duties right now...)

Imoen will be much more powerful and versatile later, but you've got to pay the price at the start.
Also, it seems more realistic to me (I mean, having to flee from a prison WITHOUT having all the tools to accomplish this set for you by the game designers).

Yep, the idea is that, to make things more interesting. BTW, Minsc can in any event force all locks and take the traps' damage without much problems.
