Umm... sorry to be picky but... during the conversion to Drow you've lost the highlighting on the skin and so it's made the entire face look flat. Tweaking Curves might help, or if really pushed, selecting the areas with a feather of e.g. 3 and then a new Adjustment Layer for Levels should do the trick? Only a trying-to-be-helpful suggestion.

Well, I don't really see it there... the light and dark areas make it look good for my eyes... well, I can't really say if it's my eyesight that's playing tricks on me or not. Could be.

Okay, now that I've got into it, I have to admit that you're right there. I had to put it next to some other portraits to properly see how it's supposed to be. So, how do you think it looks now?

Much better. :) More years ago than I care to remember, I was told in my art class that even black has shades of red when it comes to portraits. I was also told in my physics class that there is no black (!!) and that all blacks are almost tintless shades of red, green and blue. Possibly irrelevant, but I've never forgotten either teaching and have applied them from those days to this; I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you are doing a portrait of a dark-skinned person then the final shade always needs to have some tiny tint of red as a nod towards red blood. I had both a very, very good art teacher and a very, very good physics teacher.

Hope this helps in future; as I said, it's also possibly completely irrelevant.

Thanks. I don't know if that's relevant or not; but I like to think that a colourblind person can do way better black-and-white comic books than someone who sees colours... just because the colourblind person sees so many more shades of black and grey, and can make a sky look like a sky even in black-and-white pictures. Also, that might be completely irrelevant as well.

Ooh, I like the eyes. I think the tone on the skin between the eyes and nose (cheekbones?) is a tad too yellow though. Either that, or the tone under the eyes is too pink.

Yeah, you're right there... how do you think this cuts it? I think I got it now (New one on the left).

That's much better. And the new Kivan kicks ass, the lighting on the knife and the night sky with general darkening of the portrait looks excellent. Great work.
Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to...
