As some people may know, I'm making an NPC mod myself, and was wondering what in other peoples opinions makes them want to play an NPC mod, and what makes an NPC 'good'.

I find a storyline which captivates my imagination, makes me want to find out more helps a lot - for example, the Beyond the Law mod by Zyraen. Believable characterization helps too ;)

In my opinion , i know that the NPC must be good at what he is , if he is a mage good spell will make the NPC more enjoyable. There is also the backround , if the story fit with the NPC personnality , his mood and his way to be around poeples and all .
Not too bad and miserable story either , in my opinion i think there is a lot of this , poeples who lost somoene or are hunted or are killer...But something that give you a thrill , and here come the quest..
You want to help , or if you are evil you help the NPC just for some gold or something useful to gain .
But a good NPC , is all of this in one mod. When it is done right everyone will want to get it and try it out and then they cant stop playing it loll
I personnaly i like when there is romance , but im quiet tired of the sweet romance , i liked very much edwin romance where there is a lot of fun...:-D
Anyway it was my opinion and surely watever you come with i will try it , i like to try everything where there is good story , good talk and a lot of fight loll
What's the point of rebelling against the society by becoming an asshole?

An NPC mod that has quests and things to explore. They need to fit into the party and be a good reason to drop 1 of my favs to play him/her. So think of who they will replace in the game, does not need to be just like who they replace, but fill the role of the thief, mage, fighter or who ever.

Well, I really like banter and an interesting personality (e.g. some eccentric habit or way of speech e.g. Jan :D ). If it's a female NPC, romance option is always a plus, but not necessary. One quest or two won't hurt, but I really don't care about them too much if the NPC has depth and has mucho banter with CHARNAME and Co. Good music for the banters is something I appreciate much as well. Those are some of da main things. Somehow I don't like all-knowing NPCs who are also calm as death. It always seems that the CHARNAME is the underdog in those conversations... well, that's probably just me.

You mean, you'd like music in friendly conversations, not romance only?

There might be a problem that existing PC-NPC non-romance conversations do not have any, so it may break the spirit of the game. As well, it'll increase the mod size a bit, i.e. romance track in .ogg is about 350-370kb, and two will hit 700.

Any other opinions on this? Do you prefer music for romance conversations, only, or for friendly banters, as well?

Well, I'd prefer music for all banters, but it's just a plus, not necessary if the modder sees it as unnecessary hindrance. And speaking of "breaking the spirit of the game", many mods have already done things that weren't in the original game, yes? So I wouldn't see music for friendly banters as a fourth wall breaker. ;)
