No. No, they really are defunct.

No.Does anyone happen to know if the spell 'time-stop' freezes the mind? That is, are people aware that a timestop has taken place during the spell?
Because it doesn't actually freeze anyone. Rather, it speeds up the caster. The caster perceives a world full of frozen people, but the caster's perception is the objectively incorrect one.

Urg. This isn't what I wanted to hear. (Though I still appreciate the answer. )
WoW is going to need serious revising now.

Regardless, a creature affected by time stop never percieves the time stop. the caster finishes the spell, then instantaniously, from the perspective of everyone else, the casters actions during the spell take effect.

Neither the casters perception, nor the perception of those under the effect of a time stop can really be called "incorrect". The caster simply 'pauses' time for everyone in the area of effect besides himself (or speeds himself up in time, if you prefer).

So how does this work for creatures that are immune to timestop (certain monk abilities and others I can't recall). Also, what grants such an immunity?

It's subtle and insidious, disguised as reasonable precautions which become more and more oppressive over time, until our lives are defined by the things we must avoid. She's easy enough to agree with, after all, she's only trying to help -- and yet she's one of the most dangerous influences we face, because if she prevails, it puts the raping, robbing, axe-wielding madmen of the world in complete control. Eventually they'll barely need to wield a thing, all they'll have to do is leer menacingly and we fall all over ourselves trying to placate them." -godlizard

If, on the other hand, it's a case of the caster being sped up...I have no idea how to explain away how someone could have immunity. They would have to be able to automatically detect someone entering the time bubble the caster is in and be able to enter it as well.

Iirc, the spell stops time for a certain area, and leaves the caster immune. Anyone outside the timestop area sees everyone but the caster as being frozen. Anyone immune to time stop is therefore just ignoring the magical effect.

Or, perhaps, is capable of "stepping outside of time" like the caster...though you'd think they'd use it for their own time stops...
