So, who do you think to be the individual who had the greatest impact on the history of Faerun ?
I would say it was Karsus. He destroyed a god, he caused the downfall of the greatest human empire in all the history of FR and he determined dramatical changes in the way that magic works.

Yeah... gotta be Karsus, assuming that only mortals count...

If mortals that ascended to godhood count... then Bane and Myrkul, you know, the whole stealing the tablets of fate and starting the time of troubles which led to a bunch of gods dying and others ascending... that was a pretty important event.

He's the archwizard who cast the 12th level spell "Karsus Avatar" which allows him to steal the portfolio of a god. Karsus casted it on Mystryl, causing all magic to cease for a time, and thus directly causing the fall of Netheril.

The new goddess of magic, Mystra banned all spells greater than level 10 from being used by mortals.

If the legends in "Races of Destiny" are to be believed, then I vote for the man who killed the Sacred Stag, thus causing some god to smite humanity with plague.
Because of that, humanity had to spread, which caused a lot of change, for sure...

EDIT: His name was SHARAK. and the original village was DESH. ;)

Karsus, I don't remember much of him, could someone post a bio of him?

Karsus
Birth/Death: 3163-3520
Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Class: 41st-level arcanist (mentalist)
Hit Points: 74
Str 19; Dex 13; Con 19; Int 22; Wis 19; Cha 15

Also known as the Archwizard, Karsus was best remembered for causing the fall of Netheril. His birth marked the beginning of Shadowed Age; his death marked the end of Netheril.

Like most of the archwizards, Karsus believed that the gods were nothing more than mortals who had mastered magic that he hadn’t yet discovered. When he began researching 12th-level magic in the early 3400s he concluded that this was the power that the gods themselves wielded. His mistake was believing that common magic was what separated the gods from the archwizards, but it wouldn’t be until the Time of Troubles in 1358 DR until Ao, the Overlord of the gods, demonstrated that there was more than just magic at work in the rise and fall of gods.

Karsus was a man full of self-confidence and an unshakable faith that what he believed was the way things really were. Not even the pleadings of his closest advisors could sway him once a decision to do something was made. This character trait applied itself from the smallest of enclave decisions to the creation of the most powerful spell ever created, Karsus’ avatar.

Another facet of Karsus’ personality also shined through to anyone who met him: He was stark, raving mad. He acted like an excited child most of the time, and his tantrums were to be avoided at all cost. He could be warm and friendly or ruthless and tyrannical; there really wasn’t anything in between.

Karsus went through many “special friends” during his lifetime. These were individuals whom he suddenly took a great liking to, spoiled for a while (obtaining information or services from them) and then tossed them aside like a forgotten toy. Some in the Karsus Enclave viewed the designation of “special friend” as a death mark.

Have to agree on that, Karsus caused the most significant event in the Realms' history so far. If the Netheril Empire hadn't been destroyed, it would have brought on a fairly different Realms, to put it blatantly.

Nope, wizards.com old editon downloads.

http://www.wizards.c...d/dnd/downloads

Specifically, "Arcane Age: Netheril, Empire of Magic". It's a whole campaign setting set in ancient Netheril.
