Well, it's true that LucasArts probably pushed them too hard and made them finish it too fast for the good of the game content, as it was later seen. Great game titles can and will flop from time to time... Daikatana anyone?

vell you are of course right but vhy use daikatana as example? sorry, but i hated zat game. how about arcanum? vell and zen bloodlines brought troika to bankruptcy too, nein, so it probably didn't sell to vell eizer.

Well, Arcanum was actually a very good game, just not something that can be well marketed to masses (mainly because of its old looking graphics). Haven't played Bloodlines myself, but I've read that it was somewhat better than an average game, but again, not really a record selling game like e.g. Half-Life. Daikatana... it had huge expectations on it, and it was because of those expectations that it was looked upon with even more dissatisfaction when it totally and utterly flopped. Not really a great loss if you ask me personally, but I like to use it as an example of a over-hyped flop.

Heh.

Actually, we had a discussion about bloodlines a while ago... Can't remember where though.

Go ahead and open a thread, and your Bloodlines Praiser of the year (me) will be there in a jiffy! ^_^

Well, of course us roleplayers know that Bloodlines is simply the second-best game ever created. But seriously, Bloodlines is not appropriate as a game for the masses because
a: Load times were huge (yes, some people actually scrab games because of that)
b: There were a couple of bugs and
c: The dialogue and world information was immense, and unless you like to read, you don't like to play this game.

But the roleplaying and the story - maaaaaaan. I've never seen anything like it. And they were completely true to the real Vampire the Masquerade pen&paper game, so for the fans of that (me included) it was awesome.

But the masses like quick games. Even when it comes to roleplaying people like it quick and easy (my personal explanation of the fact that Baldur's Gate is more popular than Torment, which is THE best game ever), so I just rejoice when something finally does come that meet my requirements. I hoping for Dragon Age or NWN2 to do that, but I'm not counting on it.

I guess the vampire-thing got to me because heavy metal, goth-punk and darkness suits me in the virtual world. It's the p&p game I like best anyways.

Some day the Trekkies will wake up and realize Starwars is good and Star Trek sucks. Until then I am content with being the one who knows ^_^

I can agree to the SCI-FI - sometimes. Starcraft was awesome for example.

 Trekkies never wake up to realize that - they'll die of over eating soon anyway, at least most of them will. Hope there ain't any Trekkies here... At least it seems impossible... If we count FPS games as sci-fi, then there's always Doom. B)

Hey Ze German, in your 1st two pics you look kinda like Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham/Hellraiser). Especially in that 2nd pic. I always thought he looked hard & hurt & pensive at the same time.

oh yees... i love puzzleboxes, playing vit one right now... oh gott hellraiser 4 vas such crap, ja? but i especially liked ze 2nd one vit ze mad doctor vit ze tentacles.much fun!

i am ashamed to have to say zat i dont like star wars or star trek. but dune...excellent...best science fiction book ever! vell in my humble oppinion zat is. also ze fading suns rpg setting is very interesting and a good mix of elements from dune and star wars. but yes, starcraft vas ze supreme game, just gotta love zose protoss.

however ze star trek has zis unpurposely humoristic aspect vit ze scientific terms ja. as a natural scientist i could alvays kick gene roddenberry's grave (vhich is in space, sadly...) vhen i hear ze characters talk about ze varp speed and ze berillium and ze ozer stuff zat is in no vay logical and is completely unscientific, ja. anyone else zink so too? nein?

vell back to ze underrated rpgs. does anyone perchance know ze best crpg ever, amberstar? it is pretty old and german so you probably don't know it. but maybe ja?

Cripes! Watch it with that puzzlebox, man. You know those things are hard to open for a reason. *sginificant glance*

In terms of horror movies, I'm a bit of a late bloomer. I just started watching the really gory ones a few years ago. I remember Hellraiser (org.) being in the theaters when I was in college, but I didn't actually see any of the movies until 1 & 2 showed on AMC's Halloween monster marathon this year. I liked the mad doctor too, but it was too easy to pick him out as a mad doctor immediately. I mean, in their first conversation with Kirsty he tells her they have some "planning" to do. This after making "we are explorers of the mind" kinda comments whilst literally poking around in somebody's brain. Dude.

I was talking to a friend about this & other horror movies the other day. She told me that what creeped her out most in The Exorcist was the Catholic guilt (esp. from the dead mother). I told her that what creeped me out about Hellraiser most was Dr. Channard's suit--it's just *too* clean & pressed. Ok. I don't know what it is. It just bugs me. She looked at me for a second and said, "What does it say about us that what creeps us out about both of these horror movies is the guilt and the suit?" Then we both laughed, which probably says something in itself.

I like both Star Trek and Star Wars. I liked Star Wars more when it was a trilogy. The prequels are all crap. The last prequel was the best of the three, but that's relatively speaking. Don't make me start ranting about the why's of my opinion, there. I like Star Trek because I grew up with it and because there are just things I like about it. I agree that its premise is based on a lot of junk/pop science, and it's so full of inconsistencies that it makes swiss cheese look dense, and there are problems with characterization flaws that could keep me typing for days--but I've already just about written a novel so I'll not go there. Why do I like it then? For the same reason I like Dr. Who in spite of its lousy special effects. It's just a subjective preference. To paraphrase The Dude--it's just like, my opinion, man.

I also liked p&p D&D, but I haven't played it for a long long time because I don't know anyone around me who also plays. So if I want to play at all, I'm bound to the PC.

Well, I was neither offended by anybody's Star Wars vs. Star Trek remarks nor by the way you type. It is really hard to read, however. And though I'm sure it's unintended, I imagine that the gag could sound condescending to many of the members here for whom English is a 2nd or 3rd language.

(And this thread hasn't been on topic since about the first few posts, so don't while I agree we shouldn't continue to hijack, I wouldn't worry too much about it.)

Have you ever seen John Cleese immitating as a german? It's quite hilarious. And though one of my friends is a jew, and his mother was killed in the war, he can still laugh about Ze German's way of talking. A little untraditional in a forum, sure, but it's creative and different.

And I'm sure he doesn't inted any harm with it. Of course, if harm is done, and you're offended, it would be the most considering act if Ze German stopped talking that way, but you could ask a little more nice than:

"Can't you just f**k off". Personal attacks are restricted to your own mind. On this forum, they like to keep the posting clean of that stuff.

Even though I'm a socialist I don't get mad at Ze German for speaking as he does, or by the fact that he's conservative. It's a free country, and if you're offended by his posts, ask him nicely and I'm sure he'll be civilized enough to listen to you.

Especially because he is making fun of nazis, not exactly sympathizing with them.

well, well i get the point ok. i realize that i am not wanted here.  i suppose i thought that my irony wouldn't be lost on you, but evidently i thought wrong. just for your information my grandparents died in the damned second world war and i am an immegrant to germany so stfu. i am, of course, not a conservative (how could i be, listening to punk music and playing bloodlines etc?). my avatar is not a picture of some nazi but of a movie director, who worked primarily in the USA! Erich Von Stroheim. i thought you would notice by looking at the location of the images i posted. i was merely trying an imitation of the pronounciation of peter sellers in dr. strangelove.
sorry if i offended anyone, i thought my humor would be understood here. always tried to be quite polite actually...

Leaving because of that?!

If I had to leave everytime someone critized me on a forum, I would be gone from this forum a long time ago. There'll always be people around like that, just ignore them. The only ones you have to listen to in that regard are moderators.

AND, I don't care whether you are conservative or not conservative, because it has nothing to do with what we're talking about on this forum. So stay, and ignore the bitchslappers.
