How can you find this out? Is there any specific quest for this? The guy who takes you to the different islands with boat is a shadow dragon
Then how about this:and as far as I know there isn't a prismatic dragon in the campaign.

However, I do remember picking up a nice pair of prismatic dragon boots. The only dragon I do remember in HotU is the dracolich- only because it was such a pain in the arse to defeat it.

Yeh, sad enough, but this might be the case here. This prismatic dragon may have been intended to be part of the campaign, but the concept probably ended up being scrapped.
There is a Shadow Dragon in the Cania tavern, and the boatman in the underdark - according to Archmage Silver. The only dragon I do remember in HotU is the dracolich- only because it was such a pain in the arse to defeat it.

So he actually betrays the city, or helps to defend it?Yep, the boatman is a shadow dragon, you can see the transformation to dragon when the attack by Valsharess' troops happens

Edit: And about the prismatic dragon, you read the desription Bio wrote for it. HotU was supposed to have gloomy feeling and if there was a shop-a-holic neon colored dragon around it might slightly put off that feeling. It would have been a nice easter egg though. Bio has always made creatures and not used them anywhere, more for NWN than other games, since NWN is module based, very much designed for modding and creatures are used for mods if not for game campaigns.
