I don't need to read 5 pages of topical discussion from other a month ago to respond to what I perceive as a snotty comment.
Amusing as the reaction is, I'd not go so far as to suscribe any sort of emotion on my part to it.
You've said your bit, I've said mine, lets leave it at that eh?
how come you always look so damn cool in every photo I see you in?!?
Speaking of modding, I listened to IER 3 yesterday, so you can have another quote for your signature: how come you sound so damn cool, as well as look it? It's unfair. Seriously.
Still a cyberjock, still hacking the matrix, still unsure of what that means.

You see, this is an interesting phenomenon I've observed around Studios especially. Assuming we're not dealing with Seifer forgotten his password here, we appear to have a classic example of a guest or minor poster who, having observed various incidents on the board, has decided that around here it's "cool" to liberally label people "troll" or accuse them of "flaming". It is, of course, possible that some of the accusors genuinely think there is some trolling going on. However, historically, the term was used much less commonly until the Studios administration started indulging, at which point it suddenly became far more popular. It really is quite a fascinating social feature.*sigh* Oh dear, the trolls are at it again.
You're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. I'd just stick to "I didn't understand it properly" as an excuse.Speaking of knee-jerk reactions, I wonder why someone should be so defensive when said person was not currently involved. Oh well, as they say "if the shoe fits."
I guess I'd also better contribute some smilies, since you make it evident that no post is complete without them. Today's selection is:
Yes, you can indeed always rely on somebody to "make a mountain out a of molehill" by "interpreting an entirely unoffensive joke as a childish jab by failing to read the context in the post right above it". Let's leave it at that!I can always rely on some to make a mountain out of molehill eh?

Thank you for those words! This may be a bit late but I'm definitely staying with you guys. You moved, I received the email, and I'm still mostly observing. I don't post much because I have so much yet to read and learn from such Forgotten Realms masters. That is how I feel about you guys. And I think this is better than any other half-baked wannabe cheap immitation spilling similar information onto the web.
Carry on!

I'm afraid the above assumptions are not accurate. As I said before, the joke was based off spam e-mails, specifically the ones that try to sell "genuine Rollex wacthes," etc. Not everyone's going to recognize the pattern, but I don't think spam e-mail falls into the category of private or exclusive knowledge. Anyone who's been plagued with unsolicited mail had a chance to catch the reference, though audience comprehension is not a guarantee with any humor.Oh..... It was a private joke right? Without any smileys and not being on the inside and knowing the joke, it just looks like a repeat of we saw so often on FW. Shame on us uninitiated for bringing anyones motives into question.
I posted about this initially because I was disappointed that a comment that trivial merited snark and name calling. That's why I'm bothering to put in the time to comment about the issue again. The persistent negativity is just so unnecessary, and I guess I'm tired of being in it. I'm not singling Studios out with this. Name the forum, and it's been afflicted with brouhahas of us vs. them, me vs. you, "You can't use my crayon!" and the eternal, "Oh, grow up." Is there a point to any of it?
I guess I'm tired and going through another mushy "Why can't we all just get along?" phase.
The cold, hard reality will set in soon enough. We are not in Utopia. There is a tiny set of people I dislike, and I can't really manage the will to be civil to them. We can't all get along.
But that's not going to stop me from feeling mushy about it now and then.

Also, I'd just like to say that the Studios wiki is far better than half-baked wannabes like that Wikipedia place!

Do you really have to make comments like this, with no other purpose than to provoke or stir up even more of the argumenting we've been thankfully (more or less) spared from lately? Also, I'd just like to say that the Studios wiki is far better than half-baked wannabes like that Wikipedia place!

Like the purpose of your post was to sincerely express your affection and sing praises the SHS wiki?I wonder why the other guy's denunciation of "half-baked wannabes" was more purposeful or less provocative. Although once again bonus points for deciding to interpret a harmless joke in the most negative way possible.
I have never done anything but encouraged constructive feedback and criticism, but I can do without sarcastic and inciting comments.

Maybe, maybe not. But it was about as sensible as the other post. Yes, of course, "half-baked imitations" is 100% constructive and 0% inciteful!Like the purpose of your post was to sincerely express your affection and sing praises the SHS wiki?

Consis was complimenting SHS and the work we do. Does that need to be constructive? I don't think so, but would rather say that encouragement and appreciation is what makes it all worth it.Maybe, maybe not. But it was about as sensible as the other post. Yes, of course, "half-baked imitations" is 100% constructive and 0% inciteful!
Your post wasn't anything like that, but since I've already said what I thought about it; let's leave it at that, shall we?

Then why don't you do that, instead of commenting in the self-said manner against us?Consis didn't seem to be complimenting and encouraging all those half-baked imitations out there though. Somebody has to stand up for them.
I don't really think other sites are fair game for someone to provoke, but I never viewed Consis' post as anything like that in the first place. And even if he was criticising other sites in the process, is it my duty to stand up for them against someone who's trying to compliment me? Would you?Or are other similar sites fair game for provocative comments, while only ShS itself requires strictly constructive or positive feedback?

Aw, come on. I don't think that either of us saw his post as violent abuse against anyone.Okay, so abuse is fine as long as it's preceded by a compliment. I think there's scope for amending the forum rules here, because they erroneously imply that it's never acceptable.
And I'd surely be most surprised the day you start standing up towards the abuse against BGT when someone proclaims that "Tutu rocks so much more!".

Whether we as readers/staff or whatever agree with the sensibility or validity of such differing approaches is immaterial - it is still the poster's right to say things how they want, and provided the board's guidelines banning out-and-and personal attacks or use of foul or abusive language have not been transgressed (and I don't see any situation in this thread where they have been) then I do not see a problem.
It seems to me that much of the snarkiness that occurs on any and all forums is caused by people disagreeing over the meaning of points that other posters are trying to make. I would suggest, therefore, that we are all left to make up our own minds about what people mean to say unless the individuals themselves choose to further clarify their own points. Far better we state our own opinions rather than argue about our interpretation of other people's, n'est pas?

"I think you're a great site for IE modding, not like those other half-baked imitations."Again, I don't see Consis' post as an unkind remark.
"I think you're a great admin for Studios, not like those other half-baked imitations."
No, this doesn't reflect my opinion on any of the administrators here. It's a good example of the same kind of remark though. Would you say it's at all unkind?
