Since in another topic, people are making goth versions of BGII NPCs, does anyone have 'drow' shots for them?  It would be neat if while you are a drow, your portaits look like drow as well.

Tired of thief-mages? How about trying out a wide-eyed young man more than a few picklocks up his sleeve?

Switching portraits during the Drow transformation, hmm? :)

I'm not sure whether that's possible to implement, but it'd definately be a nice idea, methinks. ^.^ Only the PC would obviously be a problem, as there'd be no "drow" version of the custom portrait.

I'm sure one of our most talented modders here will be able to tell whether the idea is feasible or not :thumb:

You could have a generic male and female drow pic for the PC. Or, you can change it when you are transformed.

There are several drow-ized NPC portraits at Unforgotten Realms (currently down, but should be back up soon, according to the site's front page).

I have researched portrait change in the development of the Valen Expansion and it is possible. In-game portrait change can be accomplished via spell-effect #107: an example of this would be the Ease-of-Use component for Edwina portrait change.

Although, I haven't tried it myself, one could reasonably surmise that the portrait-change spell effect could be attached to the spell that transforms the party's avatar to drow.

Considering your skill Lightspeed, I imagine you could do this very easily. :thumb:

Right... Almost forgot about the Edwin/a portrait change. :)

That's not the problem though. I'd imagine the spell effect is the same for all party members, so they'd all end up with the same "drow portrait". Something would have to be done to individually assign (and re-assign when the transformation is ended)...

And anything beyond basic NI-editing is absolutely beyond my capabilities. The only thing I can (truthfully) say about WeiDU is that... it somewhat scares me; and that I can't help but admire you talented guys working with it, hmm? ^.^

I could probably work on the portraits and create duplicate spell effects that would indeed have the desired effects, but actually "coding" it...

Perhaps you could reverse engineer the Edwina Ease-of-Use component? That seems as good a place to start as any.

Oh, and speakin' of Drow portrait making I'll give y'all a hint: start by inverting colours! It's as simple!

Yeah, bright skin becomes blueish black and black/brown hair becomes blueish white. Then you can use Adobe Photoshop or even Winword to fade or brighten it!

I think inverting should be avoided if possible, as it tends to look weird. The problem is that while indeed Drow skin is dark, it's lighted just the same way as normal skin is - not inversely.

Well, not really Ebon - inverting the colours also inverts the shadows, rather obviously, which we don't want. Unless, of course, you want to go over and repaint the highlights and shadows :P

I'd suggest doing a paintover, but not everyone likes actually working to make a portrait :P

I remember Lady Mystique was working on that she was actually doing qute well too. Here it is
And at the guest book you can tell her how you are patiently, or impatiently, waiting for the rest of them. So Val, and Minsc still need to be done. Vicky and Yoshi do not need to be done of course.

Edit: I am in no way claiming her Drowified portraits as my art.

EDIT2: She also has some very nice other portaits to look at and download for use. Hint invert Aerie and Vicky and they will look very creepy.

Those are really nice, but Jan and Korgan...well, I assume the author made them look like a svirfneblin (sp?) and a duergar. Now I never got to the underdark with Korgan, Jan or Mazzy so I don't know if they change to drow (you know, like...grow up a little :D ) so I can't be 100% sure.

Mazzy turns into an drow elf. I think there should have been a banter where Imoen asks Mazzy about how it feels to be taller. :P

I agree that this would be a nice addition to the game... BioWare should have implemented it at the first place me thinks. A generic drow picture would have done for the pc... transformation changed looks and all that. NPCs could have been done with the same style.
