I've been in contact with the author of the Infinity Engine Savegame Editor (IESE) for over six months now, trying to find out why IESE doesn't work with my BP-BGT-NEJ installation, including the Ease-of-Use and Item Upgrade mods.  I've been beta-testing changes he is making to it to get it to work, but so far it crashes any time I try to load the Item Browser.  It also crashes if either the Inventory or Stats page is checked under Options_Settings_Pages.  He really wants *everyone* to be able to use it if they want to do so.

He can't reproduce the problem on his computer, but he hasn't installed all the mods yet.  He wanted to know if anyone else is having problems with it, so hopefully, with the combined input, he can narrow down the problem and make it work for everyone.

If anyone has any input, please respond here or to me at questaar@usa.net, or to the author directly at m.guill@tiscali.fr  He is French, but speaks English quite well, so you can contact him in either language.

Editing this to add the link for downloading the IESE program, in case you want it ...

Infinity Engine Savegame Editor download - version 17

Thanks so much!

Hmmm ... let me rephrase that.  Since a lot of people are reading the post but no one is replying, let me ask it this way ...

Has anyone been able to get IESE to WORK with their BP-BGT-NEJ installation?  We want to know if it's just a problem on my computer (a corrupted file or something) or if it's something that is changed in the BP-BGT-NEJ mods that is causing the problem.  I used the auto-installer, following the guides posted on this forum, and added Weimer's Ease of Use and the Item Upgrade mods.

Any reply is better than none.  I don't know if it's working for everyone, or if no one has tried it.

Thanks so much!

Never heard of it so I definitely have never used it. If the product works like ShadowKeeper, it will have problems with BGT-BP because of the chiten.key. The Shadowkeeper can't read in the modified key that BGT-BP creates. So is it possible that this is why IESE can't work as well? To be honest, if I need to change a saved file, I just use NI. It works great.

Tired of Bhaal? Try some classics mods instead:

Yes, Near infinity is really nice, and if I recall correctly it is open source. So if your friend is really desperate, he could look into NI's source. That's all I can think of ATM.

Thanks so much for your replies.  I'll mention NI's open source to him.

I have used this program with a BP-BGT install. Now it does not work when you used the full istallation dialog.tlk and chitin.key. What I did was rather crude, and only used it for variable changers (hp, gold, attributes, etc...) All I did was take the backup of the dialog.tlk and chitin.key from the SOS backup folder, and put it into the main BGII directory. IESE started up perfectly with all the additions that TDD and SOS added, including items and spells.

Now it been awhile since I did that (been waiting patiently for the new BP and BGT to become non beta), so I could not be more specific. All I know as long as i took the backups of the ones indicated ubove, IESE would start up perfectly for me.

Sorry I could be of anymore help. :( Not very technically inclined. :P

Hi everybody,

It looks like this incompability with some unofficial Baldur's Gate 2 mods like BigPicture have been solved :) through a new release (r18) that have been launched today...

The lastest version of the tool is available from its official page http://frostportal.com/IESE.html

Hope everything is working now!?

Bye!

That is great news, but... *ducks to evade the flying fish*

In a couple weeks bp-weidu BETA will be publically released, and this will make any bp-bgt-nej-etc (classic
install) OBSOLETE. BP-weidu works fine with shadowkeeper, even with every big mod installed. This means it should work fine with IESE, and likely would have before the latest r18 revision.

Hi,

I add some precisions about the changes.
There was a problem that was appearing only with mods under certain conditions, the problem was inside the editor and not the mod itself, hte r18 fixes this matter, thus it will not appear with any mods...

The fact is that release doesn't mean perfect, the first release version has not often been the lastest one for any computer software...

To conclude, the r18 is more safe if you are using mods and particularly unofficial ones.

Sorry, I was misunderstanding these sentences and I answered incorrectly...

Nevertheless, its not at all obvious that if it works with Shadow Keeper it will works with IESE and vice versa, the r18 is more stable than the r17, so the r18 should normally works fine whereas its not evident that the r17 will...

Does IESE work with weidu-created biff files, like BGT-weidu, TDD-weidu, CtB, and others create? If so, there will be no issues of this sort. The need for the outdated, "hand-stitched" chitin.key file that BPv161g uses will be over the very minute that bp-weidu is released.

Hello,

I'm a bit embarassed cause I don't tested the editor with this recently released mods so I can't told you. Like said edchina I hadn't installed all this materials on my computer, I have a low speed modem ...

Maybe someone have made the test or could make it... All that I can say its that is was working with a previous release of this mod so I don't know why it will not work with this new release. The second thing is that the editor is implementing the files formats of the games and all mods respecting them accurately must be supported automatically.

Two quick observations on IESE, from five minutes' use:

- it doesn't recognize TOB's wild mages.
- it gets hit points plain wrong for the protagonist, both in tales of the sword coast and throne of bhaal.

Hello,

Hope you have used the lastest release (currently r20) ...

I will check for the wild mage.

About the Hit Points (HP), I think its due to the fact your character is using magical items that increase the HP, the HP stored in the savegames are those without the magical attributes applied. However, if your character doesn't use any magical items and the HP differs, just post again ...

Bye,

Guillaume

It doesn't support any custom kits till r18 has this changed?
if you could implement this feature i would be very gratefull, furthermore if i remember correctly local variables to the characters aren't supported neither. As a last request if it would be possible to make it read the kit descriptions directly from the game files this would simply be awsome. As for the rest it's a great editor. thank you for it.

Newest version? But of course.

Load the mission pack save included when you install Tales of the Sword Coast. The protagonist has 99 hit points and no hp/con-increasing items. He has 19 con, though. In your editor, he has 64 hp.

Minsc, in the same save, has 60 hp in-game and 53 hp in your editor.

Your shown hp numbers, are they before CON adjustment perhaps? If so, could you show adjusted hit ponts in a non-editable box or something like that, so the user can see total hit points in the editor?
