This thread makes me belive that there should be a "game finder" thread somewhere. Sure we may be all spread out, but a few might be able to meet/game.

Another thing you can try; My local shops have boards where you can post lookign for players/DMs. Just watch out for the tards that want to bring thier lv50 fighter/30 druid/35 Mage/47 Paladin (this was a CN character and was before 3rd ed), half red dragon/Half gold dragon characters. Before you laugh, I did talk to someone on the phone wanting to play that. I hung up, he called back and yelled at me that I was "cramping his creativity". Needless to say, I just blocked him number and told him where to stick his +12 Holy Avenger/Vorpal blade of Wounding (not making that up either).

Yes we need a game finder thread, both for PnP D&D as well for BG games. Someone could post I am able to play all Sundays, anyone else want to?

lol, I'm happy to play a human fighter with the (spelling) Myramdon kit 2nd ed core rules.
I like core rules, lots of little tiny details for stuff and those I play with (unfortunatly for the stated reasons before not very often) are always using them to annoy the current dm :D stupid little things but still rules are rules :whistling:

edit:

Basicly if anyone has ever seen the dnd scene at the end of the credits on Summoner (I know it's there for the pc version) we're a bit worse then that, though we don't argue about eye colour, just everything else

What exactly did communisim have to do with D&D? W[h]ere such materials restricted in the former government or just hard to find?

View Post

Well, first it was human mindlessness, then poverty and finally lack of popular interest. Even now and in near future, considering D&D's orthodox and complicated ruleset, it's unlikely we'll ever see game boxes in stores or cafes.

Sorry for answering so late... :D

At a place I used to frequent, people would meet up and play p&p AD&D over IRC.

Unfortunately, it just wasn't "compatible" with my time zone.

Where I go to college, there is a club that plays board games with about 20 people playing DnD. Im not acquainted with pen and paper, so i dont play. But its still a considerable amount of people for such a small college.

Wow I play D&D much more than you people. Me and my friends meet three times a week at school to play D&D of one sort or another and I generally DM for it. Just out of interest, is there always a powergamer in EVERY club or just mine.

There are always people who want their characters to survive despite the odds, I guess you could call them the powergamers.

Pritty much everyone wants their characters to survive, regardless of odds, if they are playing a character they enjoy (and they should be).

My definition of powergaming would be where the DM makes constant comprimises to keep them alive, instead of the players ingenuity doing the job, or when players manipulate rules/cheat/complain/whatever in an attempt to make the game go their way.

Yeah, but ingenuity requires time, unless you decide to run it like a timed chess match - 30 second DM time, 30 second reaction time per player, assumption that basic survival law + some attendant damage is taken as default.
Manipulate rules? Only when they're ill defined - even in normal society, it happens.
'Cept you don't die, you just get billions/millions and 1 year in jail. Seems pretty good.

What are you talking about, exactly?

Everything takes time. If the players rush through everything and make stupid mistakes, then their characters will suffer. Sometimes this makes sense if they are playing foolish characters, but many times it does not.

I think timing the game like a chess match would be absurd. It's not players vs. DM, and the vast amount of time in most sessions (at least the ones I play or DM) are not combat encounters.

The rules are flexible and subject to interpretation. They are meant to be this way. Coming up with all encompasing, fully comprehensive, rules would do nothing but was space, complicate the game, or drastically reduce flexibility.

By maniplulation of rules I was primarily refering to players who are rule lawers and try to point out and argue whatever interpretation of the rules suits them at the moment, regardless of what the DM has said. The DM determins what rules will be used and what these rules mean, in his or her game. Discussion and clarification of various points is good and fine, but I feel it should be done before or after the game and be unbiased.

No point in making me the villain here - the sessions I had occasion to witness, mind, not participate in, weren't planned out in advance.
Thus, 'the rules' as you say, weren't set in concrete.
Of course, hilarity ensued.

I'd say that my powergamer is definitely the latter category.

We' ve started AD&D in 1990. We' ve played dozens of campaigns and invented our own wrolds and systems. Pnp is the ultimate experience. I've tried all the RPGs released in Home Computers since Bard's Tale 1. Nothing (even BG2, which is definately the best computer RPG ever released) compares to PnP. We still play constantly every week, now on a self-modified version of the AD&D 2nd Edition in a world created by us. I currently work on a PnP system which merges the best (in my opinion) elements from AD&D, Ars Magica, The White Wolf and the Chaosium engines. I've also developed a pseudo-medieval world setting based on Neil Gaiman's "Sandman". PnP is certainly better than computer games, since it involves human interaction. And do not forget RP stands for Role Playing!!!

k, I'm new to this site and all, but me and some of my family love D&D and the RPG games including stuff anywhere from BG (xbox and PC) and other forgotten realms games. But as for being able to play online (I'm assuming that's what your talking about, if I'm wrong feel free to insult my intellegence) But my brother is starting up this site. There's a little bit of a twist to it though.. All the game play is the same, and rule of the newest addition apply.
But since my mom loves to complain about how she thinks killing monsters and the like is evil (I know, she just dosn't understand-lol) My brother decided to that you gain experience not by the monsters you kill, but the "good deeds" or "bad deeds" you do in the game. so good or bad, you still level up, but you can choose light or dark side (bringing a little stars wars in there) so in that sense, it's a lot like knights of the old republic and fable.

One more thing though, then I'll shut up. This part I think people would be in the most dissagreement with, but in hopes of pleasing my mom he put a church spin on it (don't lash out just yet) you can complete training worksheets to gain more experience and stuff, that deal with scripture references and bible reading and what not.
So Yeah, it's all the same expcept when it comes to leveling up. Just check out the site if you want to know what I mean.

hope I helped some what.
