Poll: What level of NPC spoilerage do you usually feel most comfortable with? (31 member(s) have cast votes)

What level of NPC spoilerage do you usually feel most comfortable with?

  1. Rumours and Conjecture: I want to know absolutely NOTHING about a mod in advance, thank you very much! Well, a name and the fact that it exists, but nothing else? I want to save as much as possible for when I play! (1 votes [3.23%])

    Percentage of vote: 3.23%

  2. The Bare Bones: Just a portrait, name, class and a rough sketch of the character?s personality and mod concept, please. I don?t want to know anything about the NPC?s background or such that would give any inkling about the storyline. (6 votes [19.35%])

    Percentage of vote: 19.35%

  3. Basic info only: Nothing more than I wouldn?t know immediately after the NPC joins. So class, stats, in-game bio etc. are OK, as are screenshots of initial character records, joining dialogue screenshots etc. Nothing beyond that, please. (8 votes [25.81%])

    Percentage of vote: 25.81%

  4. Regular teasers: Ooh spoilers! Keep slipping NPC banters and screenshots out at regular intervals so it keeps me keen. So long as it doesn?t give away any major surprises or plot developments I?ll stay a happy camper. (13 votes [41.94%])

    Percentage of vote: 41.94%

  5. Spoilerage City: Spoil as much as you like please. I need to stay interested in a mod and the only way that is going to happen is if you keep posting plot, dialogue, encounter and banter teasers on a regular basis. (3 votes [9.68%])

    Percentage of vote: 9.68%

Yup, another poll to while away the hours in Chrysta forum-land! :^^:

While pootling around various forums, I have been surprised by the levels and types of spoilers that abound for NPC mods that are still some way from completion. Personally, I am not planning on giving any more away in advance than I already have (my approach erring on the side of conservatism? I could never see me wanting to spoil more than option 3 ?Basic Spoilerage? from the above list).

However, it did make me curious as to what attitudes people out there in the NPC mod-playing world have towards providing spoilers in advance of the release of a mod. Do regular ?leaks? of spoilery info, even if it means fewer surprises in the final mod release, help to keep people interested in a mod and its development? Do you sometimes get annoyed at how freely a mod spreads so much information around that you feel like you have already played it before it is released? Or, conversely, have you seen mods that stay so quiet during development that you forget they are there until their release, by which time you have lost interest?

Like I said above, I am not going to change my own minimal-spoilerage approach. I am just being nosey. :D

If I'm going to be interested in a mod, I'll have to know a bit before downloading it. Posting a few NPC banters is a good measurement as far as the writing goes - and since quality writing according to another poll in this forum is the most important thing, I figure it'd be easy to figure out the rest. ;)

Then again, I don't think people generally like to be spoiled as far as details of quests and story of the mod. Aurea mediocritas, I'd say. :)

Agreed. Some banters, some screenshots, etc. but don't spoil the surprise. That's option #4, right?

I'm with you on this. . .I rarely glance at spoilers. I don't mind occasional banters, but I can take em or leave em. Basic story, stats, background is useful, to know whether or not I am interested.
It is my firm belief that it is a mistake to hold firm beliefs.

The Bare Bones, if you know too much about an NPC you might decided you (dis)like it too early...

Screenshots are always good. I don't mind spoilers though since I've played the game some odd million times.

Well, good luck with that.

Hmmm.. consensus seems to be that non-plotline spoilers are rather more popular than I had imagined. Although to be honest my aversion to too much spoilerage is probably unfounded, and I can see that the occasional spillage of non-critical tidbits can help to keep everyone interested.

OK then, I will endeavour to act against my nature and drip feed the occasional morsel in order to keep people interested in how Chrysta is coming along - such as the Minsc-Chrysta banter I recently added to the "Chrysta Screenshots" thread.

Just don't expect an avalanche of goodies, is all. A leopard may sometimes changes his spots, but with me I am determined it will be just one splodge at a time. :thumb:

voted 3rd option, though 4th option is okay if you do not do it to much IMO. Keeps them hanging on and getting a little better of the reactions of your character, but be carefully not to do to many without explicit warning.

It seems I'm the only one who voted option 5. :D I do not mind spoilers at all (even if I know the ending, that does not stop me in the least to play a mod which I am interested in
