Many people in the Realms pay lip service to multiple gods (with the god they worship the most being their "patron deity"); for example, it's fairly common for Red Wizards to try to appease as many as a dozen gods.  Since Malar and Garagos are not enemies, Ariena could easily pay tribute to both.

A little other question of the gods

On the source that was given me it http://www.geocities...rmdnd/gods.html stands that though you might expect it Helm and Cyric aren't enemies. Is that correct?


P.s. strange side note for getting helm stronghold. Helm is an enemy of Talos, but still they do not want to upset the balans between Lathander church and Talos church... little mistake me thinks.

Cyric considers all other gods to be his enemy (even more so during the time when he went insane), though obviously he hates some more than others. He'd be more than happy for the priests at one of his temples to get into a brutal conflict with the church of Helm, if it furthered their and his goals.

Similarly, though Helm doesn't encourage his followers to actively fight against the church of Cyric, if some of his priests happened across unlawful actions being commited by Cyricists, they'd certainly try to put an end to it (perhaps they'd favour trying to arrest/capture the wrong-doers, rather than kill them).

Helm is the god of balance is he not? so keeping the balance between other churches is what he does... even if one IS an enemy, letting the good guys destroy the baddies would upset the balance he protects...

Just because someone or something is Neutral aligned on the Good/Evil scale, it doesn't neccessarily mean they care about preserving the balance. They could just not be Good, but not Evil either.

I guess the reason the church of Helm doesn't want a full scale battle between the churches of Lathander and Talos in this instance, is because it's in the middle of the city, and thus lots of innocent bystanders could be hurt, buildings damaged, etc. I suspect if all the fighting were way out in the countryside, the priests of Helm would be leading the charge against the Talosians .
