I don't know if there is anyone here that can help, because I have the Mac version of the game and probably it has it's own issues and bugs (?), but this thing is quite annoying.

There was nothing wrong while in Taris, the problem begun on Dantooine. Almost always when we were out there there were these large black areas on the ground. And when you run over them they turn to normal. So it is as if the program couldn't find the right texture or something and so there is only black. This also seems to affect the movement, the character on lead gets frozen and can't stop moving in this frozen state, and keeps "jumping" around the map uncontrolled. I even turned the grass option off, but it had no affect on this. This happens especially on Matale and Sandral grounds and sometimes when we get otu of the Ebon Hawk the surroundings are all black mostly only outlines showing.

Same thing on Tatooiine.

I have tried to fix the graphic settings, it makes no difference if I have the best quality or not, I have the only patch available for Mac version (which really didn't have that many fixes) and the mod which helps me fight those nasty fighters between planets.

Some technical facts about our Mac if it is any help:
iMac 1.6 GHz with MacOS X 10.3.something, videocard NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64 MB DDR SDRAM with AGP 8x support (is there anything more I should tell?).

videocard NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra

I believe this is your problem right here, there are some well known issues with this card on the Datoon level. I myself didn't have datoon problems until I "upgraded" to the FX 5200. There is/are some graphics card drivers that can fix the problem, unfortunately I do not where to find them. :(

Edit: I did a little searching and it seems you will need to download the 4.2 OpenGL drivers for this.

But you have a mac. I don't know if they make the drivers for that platform. :(

I tried to look for that, but couldn't find 4.2, only older versions. We have some OpenGL driver, but I don't know which. Newest, I suppose, because this is a brand new iMac anyway. My hubby is asking tomorrow this from the place where we bought this, if they would know better. Or then we will have to get another card, if that is possible.

I hope there will be some solution, the atmosphere of the game suffers from this :(

If KOTOR is not going to be the most graphical intense game you plan on using anytime soon, you should really replace that video card; The Geforce FX 5200 is a real piece of crap. I had a Geforce 3 ti200, a 4 year old card, prior to getting an FX 5200, and was appalled when I discovered no increase in performance, and in some cases (like KOTOR) a decrease.

I agree, you can probably pick up a much better card for not that much. You dont seem to by having much luck with the game so far :(
Forward he cried from the rear
And the front rank died
And the general sat and the lines on the map
Moved from side to side.

:( It seems I can't do anything about this. Because I have an iMac, there is no way I can change the card inside, or so they said. So I am stuck with the crap. Almost makes me want to take the darn machine back, but I need it for my work, and that doesn't reguire excellent videocard. So I guess work before pleasure for me... :crying:

Though all has worked out fine after I left Tatooine, and the story totally rocks so I am not that disappointed :^^:
