Hello all,
I have recently downloaded the weidu version of SOS (Shadow over Soubar). It's download size is much less than the non-weidu version. Meanwhile, if you visit Baldurdash's webpage, you will see two different fixpacks for TOB: The original one plus the SOS-compatible one. I have two questions:
1) Is Baldurdash's SOS-compatible fixpack necessary even for the weidu version of SOS?
2) I have the original fixpack istalled (rather than the SOS-compatible one). Can I still install my weidu SOS? If not what shall I do? And if yes, do I need to install the weidu SOS before all other weidu mods or can I install it after the others?
Thanks in advance for your replies
Cheers
Ali

Non-Weidu patches for non-Weidu mods are going to trash your Weidu version of the mod. Do not use them! Any patch would only work with the mod it was designed to patch. I may be going out on a limb here but I suspect that when Horred repackaged SoS and TDD, he included their patches into his Weidu version. I don't know about the Baldurdash fixes.
I would assume that as long as it a Weidu package for SOA/TOB, it should work with or without SoS/TDD installed. You shouldn't need Baldurdash patches designed for SoS/TDD anymore, a normal Baldurdash patch should work (as long it is Weidu-based).

Hello Sir Billybob,
Thanks for your reply!
Baldurdash fixpack is not a patch for SOS; it's rather a patch for TOB which is recommended to be installed after the bioware official mod and before any other mods.
However, there are two different versions of Baldurdash's fixpack for TOB. One of them is the original one (released in 2001) while the other one is SOS-compatible. It doesn't add anything to SOS. It prepares TOB for the nonweidu verion of SOS.
My question was whether this SOS-compatible version of Badlurdash fixpack is also needed even if we are going to install the *weidu* verison of SOS?
The point is that the non-weidu version of SOS overwrites a few files in TOB. It is said that this process has led to crashes. The SOS-compatible version of Baldurdash's fixpack removes those files from TOB folders. Now it is clear that if someone doesn't intent to install SOS, he or she, should not install the SOS-compatible version of the fixpack because those files will be removed and lost. I'm not sure whether the weidu version of SOS also overwrites those TOB files or not.
You can file all these details in the read me file of Baldurdash's SOS-compatible fixpack. Here is the link to Baldurdash's site:
http://www.baldurdash.org/
After downloading the SOS-compatible fixpack, just use winrar program to see its read me file for details. I still don't know what to do before installing my weidu SOS. Do I need to have this fixpack or the older one would suffice?
Cheers
Ali

I think what Sir BillyBob meant to say was that Baldurdash-SoS (which isn't weidu) was exclusively designed for non-weidu SoS; so applying it to a weidu version of SoS could result in disaster (most likely I'd say btw).

Hi again,
Let me put the question in different words:
Has anyone here installed the weidu version of SOS? If yes, has he/she also installed Baldurdash's fixpack for TOB? (needless to say that Baldurdash's fixpack has to be installed before SOS) and if yes, has he/she installed the original Baldurdash fixpack for TOB (released in 2001) or the newer one (released in 2003)?
Cheers

Seems that Baldurdash-SoS must be installed after the SoS mod.
Now what we are saying is that mixing a WeiDU mod (SoS weidu mind you?) with a non-WeiDU patch (then again, Baldurdash-SoS) can screw your install very badly, as non-weidu mods/patches have to overwrite complete files (unlike weidu which adds/appends its contents without altering the rest of the modified file).
Although trial and error is the best way to learn, so give it a go and check the results by yourself. For all I know I could be wrong.
Extracted from the readme (attached below):
This FixPack is specially modified for installs of Baldur's Gate II: Throne Of Bhaal which have the Shadows Over Soubar mod present. It has removed the following files which were determined to already be present thus would be overwritten and cause Shadows Over Soubar to stop working: Aeriej.dlg, Baldur.bcs, Edwin.bcs, Edwinj.dlg, Haerda.dlg, Mazzy.bcs, Spin661.spl, Spin662.spl, Spin664.spl, Valygar.bcs, Yoshimo.bcs. This enables Shadows Over Soubar players to install a Baldurdash FixPack rather than well over a hundred separate Zip archives to avoid overwriting these files. The Shadows Over Soubar files already contain the fixes, so nothing is lost in their removal.

Hello Jewish,
Thanks for your very good and helpful reply!
As a matter of fact, I had read that read-me file, but I had also missed the point that Baldurdash's fixpack shoud be installed *after* Shadows over soubar. The reason was perhaps that it was always said that Baldurdash's fixpack had to be installed immediately after Bioware's official patch.
I have already installed Baldurdash's fixpack (albeit the original one and not the SOS-compatible version). It cannot be uninstalled unless I uninstall the whole game. But it seems that I can safely install SOS now, because even if any files are going to be overwritten, it is the SOS mod which will overwrite them in its own favor. The problem was supposed to occur if SOS had been already installed, eh?
As you said, I should go on for a try and error and hope for the best. Perhaps even the fact that my SOS is weidu, will reduce any probability of Crashes.
Thanks again!

Hi again!
Just another question:
Can the weidu SOS be installed after all other weidu mods? Or should it be installed before some or all of them? Is there any know incompatibility between the weidu version of SOS and other weidu mods such as rogue rebalancing, refinements (improved HLAS), Freedom reigns of virtue, BW-Herbs, Kelsey, Saerileth, spell50 et al?
Can the weidu SOS be installed after all of them?
Cheers
