Don't know if this helps, but I am experiencing similar problems now and then. Problem is, I'm using a rather old Notebook with a simple on-board soundchip (no environmental sound support) and an external Soundblaster Extigy (with environmental sound). Sometimes the system doesn't recognize if the Extigy is plugged in or not which causes sound to disappear... Simple solution in this case is a reboot.
Thinking about multiple sound cards - your problem may be even simpler: Did you configure the correct sound card in the BGII config program?

Yes i configured it right and yes your advice helped... aparrently a restart was in order, fixed fine now... but it comes back. Odd eh? oh well at least it works...
Btw, wonderful just on the mod guys, install was a bitch ill be honest but the rewards I reap are well worth it... and besides this one ive experienced no bugs at all so far that ive seen reported.
