Could anyone inform me as to where I would find detail description of the 3.5e spells? The player's handbook is rather uninfomative.

What sort of info do you want? The PHB has all the mechanics.
If it's flavour text you want, I think you have to make up your own. Also bear in mind different casters might cast spells in different ways.. Especially when using the Silent Spell, Still Spell, Quicken Spell, Eschew Materials or Spell Thematics feats, among others.

It says it in the description header for each spell. Most are one action...

Yep. 1 Standard action for nearly all spells except the most complex and IIRC, sorcerers using metamagic feats get their spell durations bumped up to full round casting rather than standard. Read the section on Combat and combat actions in the PHB for info.It says it in the description header for each spell. Most are one action...
