What can change the nature of man?

When Ravel asks you this question... what answer do/did you typically give and why?

I figured "Regret" was the best answer simply because while other things can indeed change a person, that person can "fight off" the change, but with regret a person wants to make a change and so hence is more likely to change. :)

Hope that makes sense. o.O

Been a long time since I played, but I think I chose Regret too. Regret or remorse is the keystone by which 'successful' rehabilitation is based. :D

That's basically what I choose too. It's too bad belief isn't on that list, since it's the most powerful force in Planescape.

Anything can be the cause, but the willpower/resolve is ultimately the driving force behind a man changing his own nature, and the lack of willpower/resolve is also the main reason behind a man's nature being changed.

For example, a drug addict may deeply regret his decision to take up whatever he's hooked on, but without the will to stop, he cannot change.

A person without resolution in his beliefs will change them easily, if belief is what defines a man, one weak of will one shallow in beliefs and thus one who is easily changed by external forces/influence.

Willpower is difficult to measure though. Remorse shows empathy. Empathy for all the pain and suffering you caused by your actions. When you can empathize with the pain and understand what you've done, it's much easier to move onto the path of reform. Even willpower can't always make a person do the right thing if they don't empathize with the effects of their prior actions and understand fully how others feel.

IMO, I don't think they're mutually exclusive. You need both in equal parts to truly remake yourself, but first you need to understand or feel remorse before you can even begin to get the willpower to make it right. Otherwise, what are you making right if you don't feel what it was you did wrong?

As I said, ANYTHING can be the cause, be it love, hatred, death, greed, power, regret etc.,

The will (or lack of will in some cases) is not the cause but the driving force behind the change.

I said that nothing can change the nature of a man, if I remember correctly. If I were to play another time, I would pick the same again. You can change a man in many ways, but his nature...

In fact, regret is the "true" answer, though only the Grey Sisters know it. I typically say Time or Power.

I say nothing, because I base the question on myself, and I have never found anything that will make me change, willing or unwilling
I apparently have a high level of empathy, combined with a low level of sympathy... weird

Everyone here should read A Will To Power...

I agree with will by a long shot....

I may regret my actions,
but without the will power,
it doesn't really matter.

I chose: "I don't know" because there was no: "Anything" button. It depends on which man I guess so that was the answer for me... And look, Ravel accepted my answer! Must be right ;)

I think she wants you to answer. You can answer anything though. She is just interested in your choice IIRC.

I have translated this question as "what can change the human nature?" and, naturally, answered "nothing".

Then I understood that Ravel could mean another thing, so I've answered what held true for me: "time".

I said nothing, because that's what I believe. Nothing can change someone's nature, because you can't change what someone is.

My usual answer was related to Desire as willpower has no fuel without it.
PS:T had Ravel as one as she literally uncoupled TNO's mortality from him. (Schizophrenia anyone? :P)
