Do you DM allow your characters to use Combat expertise and Power attack in the same round?

For example:
1st round of combat
PCwinsthe initiative.
PC set his Expertise and decides to act last.
Minotaur attacks PC who used his Expertise for 3( -3 to attack, +3 to AC);
Minotaur misses.
Its PCs turn now, and he drops his Expertise and uses Power Attack for 3 (-3 to hit, +3 to damage rolls)...

I think it isnt very realistic to allow this cause the PC is concentrated on defense, and the battle is playing very fast and all....

Thnx for your opinion

P.S.This question is valid only if expertise can be used as free action  :blush:

the 3ed players handbook stats that you havde to use the attack action or full attack action to get the benefits from expertise, and that it last till you next action, this may have changed in v3.5 I don't know...

I'm not so sure about 3e rules, but aren't power attack and expertise modes of combat like parry mode and normal attack mode?

When you go into parry mode, you disable normal mode and vice versa, so I don't think you can use two modes of combat at the same time.

Even if you could, why would you want to? The combination of Expertise and Power Attack will give you a -6 to attack rolls if cumulative, can you even hit anything with that? :drunk:

I doubt that he's allowed to drop his combat expertise like that. It's probably an all or nothing.

Both power attack and combat expertice = full round actions, becose they fit under the "full round attack" option. Yes you can use both at same time, but they both stick out the entire round. and the penalites are stacking. so running Combat Expertice at 5 (+5ac, and -5 attack), and running Powerattack at 5 (+5dmg, -5 hit) would give you a -10 to hit in total. entire round.

You cannot "cancel" them, unless certain specific things happen like you getting stunned, feared, or some such thing that can affect you.
