I guess this is the right place to put this question: Who or what are the handmaidens of Lolth?

I have found one place where Yohlol demons were colled with these name, but there are some handmaidens in Ust Natha in BGII and they seem to be some kind of elite priestesses. (And Viconia mentions her brother playing jokes on them, something that I cannot imagine being done to a demon).

I'm not an expert on Drow, but Yochlols are known as Handmaidens of Lolth. Their true appearance is as a blob with tentacles, but they can take humanoid (preferably drow), spider, or gaseous forms as well. Playing pranks on them sounds a bit risky, but as they're only lesser Tanar'ri they don't have a lot of power.

This is one of the things bioware didn't research. Yochols are feared and respected even by matron mothers, viconias brother had to be crazy to make fun of them.

I don't know their PnP stats, but they've been pretty powerful in the novels.

As Stone Wolf stated they are amorphous tentacled Lesser Tanar'ri that can take the form of drow and a few other things. They are quite powerful as far as lesser tanar'ri go (i though I wouldn't really consider any lesser tanar'ri weak). I'll post thier stats in a sec.

I thought that handmaidens who die in Lolth's service become those and serve lolth as that for all eternity. Kinda how keldorn serves Torm after his death. :help:

i thought handmaidens of Lolth were just priestesses, like nightcloaks of shar, or dawnbringers of Lathander. Shows how little I know.. :P

According to Demihuman Deities, her specialty priests are called Arachne.

From what I read from the novals, Handmaiders of Lloth are what Stone Wolf mentioned. Quite powerful compared to the drows in general. They are well-respected by the drows.

Likely far more feared than respected.

They do have some psionics, which are quite rare among fiends.

Isn't that the same thing in drow society?

The Complete Psionics Handbook restored psionics to many types of fiends, though they are still rather rare.

Likely far more feared than respected.

Alot of drow would kill a Yochlol, if the drow thought it was possible and that there would be no repercusions. This is of course highly unlikely to happen, but not impossible.

Hmm... all drow priestesses are almost without exceptions clerics of Lolth, so are they just clerics and not Arachne even though they all serve Lolth fanatically? Or does the Arachne only apply to the High Priestesses?
