Are there any changes you can make safely using Shadowkeeper?

ShadowKeeper doesn't allow you to edit the text strings, so I don't see how it can trash the dialog.tlk file. Sounds like the person already had a bad install to begin with.
Hi I'm that person from CtB, and now that I read your post you're right. However, it also helped me to remember what the real problem with Shadowkeeper is. It doesn't read the chitin.key file correctly for the way we use it to install mods. I think almost all mods you can install change the chitin.key and I think Shadowkeeper at that point does something that will mess up your saved game. I remember reading about this months ago at TeamBG. So I guess the answer is if the mod you use has made a change to the chitin.key that Shadowkeeper can handle. I've used DLTCEP CreMaker and am now using Near Infinity to make changes to my save game.

B)... i'd really love to change some mainstream npcs.... like Viconia to a fighter cleric, or even a kitted cleric.
Bulcher's lvl1 npc are excellent, but not extensive enough...
any ideas if i can use shadowkeeper or other tool?

NI and DLTCEP are your friends. I usually find that both have their limits so the combination needs to be used.a) What other tools?

I know I keep harping on about Tashia as DS, but does anybody else use this combination?
I?ve never really got to grips with NI and don?t even have DLTCEP installed, I was kinda wondering if there is anybody out there who has the DS and tashia installed who doesn?t mind converting her and posting the file so it could be dropped into an override.
I have no idea if what I?m asking takes 2 minutes or several days to accomplish obviously if the later is true then what I?m asking is probably too much, so I?d settle for a tutorial on this process if that?s easier.

Reading "Chevalier's" post about Using NI, to change Xan into an Invoker, this is closely related to my previous post concerning turning tashia into a druidic sorcerer.

Is drudic sorcerer a downloaded kit available somewhere? Can your PC use it? If yes I have a method using Shadowkeeper that I have used to change class for my NPCs. I'm not very sure if it can be used to change to non-bioware Kits, but I dont see why not.
Here's how. (if anyone see a mistake, feel free to correct)
part I
1. Start a new character as a druidic sorcerer.
2. immediately before irenicus starts to ramble, save your game in a new slot ( this is for convinience heh)
3. open that game, let's call it game A. Look under characteristic tab for the character, notice the Kit box is greyed. Click values. Write down the hex number somewhere (ex. 0x40360000)
part II
1. load your current game
2. get tashia into your party
3. save and backup your game
4. load shadow keeper, open that savegame, let's call it B
5. write down tashia's current XP on abilities tab
6.1 set Tashia's base HP to 4 - i think this is base HP for druid sorcerer.. add 1 hp for Tashia's 15 CON
6.2 set Tashia's THACO to 20. (these 2 steps basically makes tashia a level 1 char)
6.3 set Tashia's XP to 0
7. leave other values on this tab alone
8. switch to Characteristics tab.
9. switch her class to the base class of druidic sorcerer (like kensai is to a fighter, not sure about druid sorc heh)
10.under the kit tab, put in the hex values you wrote down in part I
11. save the game under SK
12. load the game in BG2
13. verify everything looks correct. (class etc)
14. load SK
15. put in back Tashia's XP you wrote down. save the game in SK
16. load the game in BG2.
that's it i think. looks more complicated than it really is.

My only question now is why I need to reset her to Lvl 1, surely the changes to her kit will be affected when she levels up again.

A big thank you for pointing out how to change kits, :thumb: I thought it involved changing the innate and affects tabs. The DS class comes up as unknown in the kit list which makes sense. Cut and pasting this value should indeed make Tashia a DS.

No, since Sorcs can't have true kits, you actually have to set the level of the redone character to 0, then level up. There are scripts that are activated at that point. Be sure to doublecheck after the full changeover that you've ensured that all her scripts are intact in the correct slots. (Some may have been overwritten during the procedure.) It's not a kit made for NPCs.

Okay I asume SK is not the best way to do this what do reckon the chances are of the SK method working on scale of 1 - 10
Screwed up scripts is not what I want I had enough trouble with that katana we only mention in hushed tones (see the S&H patch)

Ever since using SK in my BP game (after chateau irenicus and d'arnise keep) my game crashes every so many minutes. Could/should there be a connection or does the problem most likely lie elsewhere (i hope it's elsewhere because otherwise i've already overwritten the before SK game). Oh the only thing i changed was minscs weapon skills, since i accidentely chose the wrong skill at leveling up :bash:
I suppose it depends on what you use SK for I understand from these forums that some things are more risky than others but I think as long as your only changing proficiencies, money, inventory, stats and such like you should be okay.
Personally, I only ever use SK to change weapon proficiencies and globals and have never had any problems I can directly attribute to SK.

JAhieara the fighter mage thief
Yoshimo the berserker/ druid
Kachiko the monk
All changed succesfully and no problems so far!

It seems that Kachiko is somehow still duel classed.... because i have to change her weapon profiencies in second class column
does anyone know how to remove the status of duel class?

If on the other hand you changed the Editing Spells/Innates page and changed the kit setting tab, this is not the way. All this setting does is change a flag in your character file that says you belong to that particular kit. This does not add in all the abilities of that kit. From that point on, when you level up you should gain any bonuses that the kit would normally aquire at your level, but any specials the kit would have gained in previous levels are not added. So basically you can keep Kachiko as duel classed kensai/mage and give her monk abilities as well, a little over powering but it works.
Be warned not all spells or innate abilities were meant to be used by your characters. If the game doesn't load (hangs or crashes) then there is probably something you shouldn't have edited. If you want to know more about this there is a basic readme with the shadow keeper download
