Input from all who have played through this part of the romance would be much appreciated - if a majority of players finds this fight too hard, I guess it needs to be scaled down a bit.

I think it is ok as it is. If you are not using a console to speed up the romance the party is on a level that allows to kill that lich with no problems. ^_^

I tried to defeat the lich about five times on the lowest difficulty level. But I'm a lousy tactician.

It was the Thay Knights that really annoyed me, and you need to make sure you have Death wards cast on your players.

But it should be noted that my characters were high-level characters.... and I add Anomen summon a demon to destract the Lich....

Well, I had this fight just now, and I was unable to get by them on the hard difficulty setting. Then I lowered it on easy, and somehow scraped by them.

One thing that I would recommend to other gamers is to use the summons cleverly and lure the lich to move into a corner, and then pull your group out of his line of sight. That really improves your chances, because otherwise you have to worry about the lich as well... and that's not good. I tell you folks - dropping a lich in the middle of the party and have him cast a pair of horrid wiltings inside a timestop, now that is seriously cruel. ;) Unless you manage to pull everyone away and drop a summon to soak up the damage... say good night!

I don't know what difficulty level you were shooting for with this fight... but I can tell you that in my opinion it is definitely much more difficult than any other fight in the unmodded game. Mind you, it's not necessarily a bad thing, but I can see how this fight can become extremely frustrating.

I suddenly feel o deliciously Eeeevil... :gun:

And I was so frustrated with my scripting of fights before this discussion. Evil Merja went through the lich party as a hot knife through butter... so I was mightily upset... :nana:

Now, maybe I should ask Maidros to test this one and tell me that I still suck at scripting difficult fights... :drunk: ( to be honest though the fight ending was done by Neb -- I only did the reddies and the lich scripts and added the Thayan knights with Merja's help).

Well, the fight is intended to be quite difficult - not totally impossible, but definitely requiring effort. The problem is that players have very different ideas about what it takes to make a fight difficult, of course.

Anyway, my advice is: Death Ward and Mirror Image are your Friends. ;)

It took me a couple of attempts on normal mode, but I'm not a very good tactician. The Lich himself wasn't as annoying as his apprentices. I was concentrating all my effort on the knights, and trying to subdue the lich, whilst the mages bugged at me with annoying little spells... Still, managed in the end...

I cheat, therefore I have an exceptionally high level and other benefits. I still found that battle difficult. I really think it needs to be made a little easier. When you give Anomen an AC of -21 and he gets bashed to goo it's not a good thing... well, some would disagree but... :P

I will say this.

I player a wildmage (which admitdly helped as she had a wild surge and ended up casting 3 fireballs instead of burning hands and did 150 damage!!!!) and I had to cheat like hell (ctrl y and r) to survive. If I was playing my uber fighter/priest with the best (in my opinian) weapons then I might not have need to cheat but it would still be hard (we're talking about a guy who ate firrgrag for breakfast on his own, now that is one tough SoB)

(just for fun this bit. The face before the gun is thoughts, the gun is the pc, the bat is the lich and his cronies)

-_- :gun::vbat:.<_< :gun: :vbat:. :( :gun: :vbat:. :gun: :vbat:.

All you really have to do is kill 1 of the mages -- just 1! Then you get help.

Hmm... I found the fight alright: not too hard, but not too easy, either. I didn't cheat, but I guess I didn't have to because I'm playing a wizard slayer (don't ask why I made one just for Edwin... Maybe he should say something regarding that particular class, -_- ), so I have 105% resistance to magical energy/ magical attacks. The fingers of death and such have no effect whatsoever on my PC, :^^: . Of course, it helps to be very paranoid and pre-emptive too. Also, the apprentices are kind of easy to kill once you get all the knights. Whirwind attack plus stoneskin, dual-wield!

And... Why does Mr D just stand there and refuse to talk to my PC and the other characters until I have to mow down all of the apprentices?!

*sigh*

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but even when I cheat I *still* get massacred. In fact, as soon as Death Fog gets cast, my characters are all dead before one of the clerics can fire off a Zone of Sweet Air.

Still, I have to gush about the otherwise fabulousness of this mod. It's a great device for procrastination. :P

Erm... Scattering your party members on entering the lich's place before Edwin starts his insult-marathon helps alot, as the lich seems to be scripted to teleport right next to Eddie and then target a specific party member before he casts time stop and the pair of horrid wiltings. Pray that Eddie gets thrown into a maze... Maybe protection against energy??

He has done this to me every time I've played through the mod, even during the beta-test stage. I didn't report it because I thought he was just observing and wasn't supposed to jump in until I asked for help. I do have to instigate conversation with him before I get the "Here! Catch!" comment.

The scattering worked! :^^:

Now if I can get the group to teleport out, that'll be a different story.

The fight is not an easy one, but it certainly is interesting. Thre are not many tactical challenges in SoA so I found this to be a refreshing change of pace. A little hectic, but exciting nonetheless.

I enjoyed it, actually.
