Degardan Mini FAQ

Question: Where will Degardan appear and where not?
Answer: Degardan will spawn in non-Dungeon areas. He will *not* spawn in these areas: Underdark exit (ar2500), the Docks (ar0300), Slums (ar0400), Bridge District (ar0500), Waukeen's Promenade (ar0700), Temple district (ar0900) and Government district (ar1000).
So, if you want him to spawn, try going outside Athkatla for a bit, or visit the Graveyard. Presumably he is trying to avoid attracting the attention of the Cowled Wizards.
Question: When will Degardan spawn?
Answer: Degardan will appear for the first time after you have had the lovetalk when Edwina asks you about 'this business of being female'. He will appear for the second time after the lovetalk where Edwina asks you for a certain personal item.
Hope this helps everybody! :edwin:

I seem to have encountered a small problem.
I had the lovetalk starting with: <CHARNAME>, there is something I've been meaning to ask you about this business of being female. It is a bit...awkward.
I understand Degardan should have spawned after that, no? Well... it's been some time since then (well, at least five in-game days) and I've traveled extensively to Umar Hills and Trademeet since then, but Degardan hasn't turned up yet.
Reckon I should use the console to spawn him? If so, please tell me how to do it...

Degardan is on a timer, regardless of how many game days have passed. My first guess is that not enough time has passed yet. He doesn't turn up directly after that conversation, you see.Hi, there!

In that case there of course is no problem. I was just reading the FAQ and got the impression that you have modified something so that he appears *exactly* after that lovetalk. No problem. I forgot to mention, he has also been known to spawn in the graveyard, and I once had him spawn in my PC:s Thief Guild. Oddly enough, many NPC:s seem to treat that area as outdoors, including Jaheira's Harpers (plus Elminster.) The funniest thing is when Edwin and Jaheira start bickering in there and he says something about how she 'can threaten him while in the midst of her own domain'.In that case there of course is no problem. I got this in my current game too!! But it only happens if you claim the guild as your stronghold, I think... someone must have flagged that area as outdoors. The funniest thing is when Edwin and Jaheira start bickering in there and he says something about how she 'can threaten him while in the midst of her own domain'.

Maybe Jaheira has a hidden desire to be a Thief Guild Master.I got this in my current game too!! Just for general information. . . I had Degardan appear in the Sea's Bounty Tavern w/out the the messenger boy; the second time was just before my party went into the dragon's lair (forgot how to spell the name) in Windswept (? Sorry) Hills.
Possible Spoiler?
Edwin asked for the lock of hair inbetween the appearences of the "mage bounty hunter"; and the LTs seem to be running smoothly since Edwin has "declared" himself to my PC. Question: Is there anything I need to wait for Edwin's mod before sailing over to rescue Immy??? Is it relatively safe to leave the mainland?
Again thankyou for such a lively, sintilating (spelling?), bantering dialog! :thumb:

Fist and foremost may I congratulate all those responsible for a wonderfully put together mod; it is written VERY well. I love the humor and room for verbal sparring between the PC & Edwin. It's great! Back to the topic. . .

Hello Celtic Rose, glad you're enjoying the mod so far. There's something you should wait for before you set sail, yes. In not all that long after you and Edwin have 'consummated your love' so to speak, he'll get an unexpected message, and will have instructions to follow.

Thanks again for such great dialog and a story that is a great "read"; I won't even start on the "extended" characterization of Edwin, (I always knew it was there, juuust under that arrogant, egotistical, surface), homework, yes back to home work, five more weeks. . . :turnip2:

Lock of hair, yadda yadda...
He then appears at Brynnlaw, RIGHT after I arrive. He casts a Dispel at Edwin.
Nothing happens for a good five minutes as I sit there.
So, since I'm playing a NE Kensai, in (at that point) a party consisting of said NE Kensai, Viconia, Edwin, Valen, and Yoshimo, I decide to punish the impudent whelp by killing him. Immediately after, I got a banter from Edwin about how it was great that Degardan was dead, etc.,etc.
Now, I'm out of the Underdark, and Edwina has been having these little flashy thingies, every time the screen loads. Should I maybe have...erm...not killed Degardan?
If not, can I magically fix this problem? As much as I find Edwina amusing, her constant whining is getting kind of boring.

I have only played through the section you have mentioned once, but unless I am mistaken, the Dispell that Degardan cast on Edwina SHOULD have changed her back into a him (that should happen at Degardan's 2nd appearance) . . . and as I was told by Laufey (just a few posts ago) that there is a task you must complete with/for Edwin before you sail for Brynnlaw. Do you have a previous save from before you sailed????? I'm not sure but I don't think the game will play out right for you now. . . . Laufey would be the best one to answer that though...... sorry

So, right. Degardan appeared first time, no problemo.

Hm...looks like there is some kind of bug. The Dispel Degardan cast should have changed Edwina back to Edwin just as it normally does in the unmodded game. I'm not sure exactly what might have caused this - I wonder if it might have had something to do with the encounter taking place in Brynnlaw. As far as I knew, Degardan shouldn't even appear in Brynnlaw.
Any way, I'll ask Dorotea and Nebukad to take a look at your post - I'm not sure how to fix your problem, but they might.

Alright, thanks. And in answer to a question posted previously....yes, I think I do have a savegame before going to Brynnlaw. But I'd really rather not have to deal with that - considering the fact that I'm currently in Chapter 6 right now, and I really don't want to have to redo Brynnlaw, Spellhold, the Sahuagin City, and the Underdark.

Well, replaying won't hopefully be necessary, but, if it's not too much trouble, could you send the save before Degardan appearance to nebukad@hotmail.com ?
