I think someone should attempt to add some NPC's to Icewind Dale and make it more like the BGII series. Icewind Dale one or two, I'm not picky.
Is there a reason that no one has really attempted this, or is because people prefer the BG series?

It's because those game engines don't support the NPCs. Attempts were made to add them in the past, and after colossal work-arounds and other attempts, there was nothing considered a success as a result.

NPCs can join, but the game crashes whenever you try to save with them in your party. The closest thing one could come up with is a talking item with banters, quests, a personnality, alignment, mental stats, etc.

Wondering where's the old Interplay community? Well, they're all at Ashford City!

I'm not saying anyone should do this (I can just imagine how long it would take) but is it possible to convert IWD1 or 2 and THEN do NPC's?

You'd have to port the game over to the BG2 engine (meaning losing unique IWD features), and then create the NPCs.

Oh well....You'd have to port the game over to the BG2 engine (meaning losing unique IWD features), and then create the NPCs.

No. Fucking about with import/export while standing on your head during a full moon does not qualify as "semi-working".
