uninstalled BG2+TOB but it won't let me reinstall

I used add/remove programs and it removed the TOB portion. It then said it was going to remove Baldur's Gate 2 so I clicked ok.
I then put the Baldur's Gate 2 CD to install it again but it still gave me the option to play.
I went back to the control panel and found that Baldur's Gate 2:Shadows of Amn was still there. I clicked to remove it, it asked if i really wanted to so I clicked yes. It showed the progress bar then disappeared. Shadows of Amn was still on the list.
I tried again but to no avail. :bash:
I'm now left with the problem that I can't reinstall Baldur's Gate 2 because my computer thinks it's still there.
There are no Shadows of Amn files left in the folders in the Baldur's Gate 2 directory so I have no idea what to do.
I was really looking forward to playing all the new mods that are being developed and BG2 is my favourite game...
And I passed my driving test today.......everything was going so well...... something had to go wrong
if there is any advice you can give me I'd appreciate it.

I looked in the registry and deleted all things to do with BG2.
tried to install again and it didn't work.
i then, fome unknown reason, decided to reinstall TOB. It actually let me. I couldn't play it obviously because there was no SOA stuff in the folder. I then used the uninstall option in the BG folder (from the start menu, not the control panel).
It uninstalled TOB and SOA but SOA was still in the add/remove programs, except this time it said it was taking up 0.00MB of space.
then i had a brain wave. :^^:
I put the SOA CD1 in and on the autoplay it still ahd the play option rather than install. I went into the CD and ran the Setup.exe and would you believe it......
IT INSTALLED!!!!! :thumb:
I then installed TOB, the official patch and the Baldurdash fixpack and it played.
Then I installed all my mods and they worked.
I then installed the mod that i had wanted to install at the beginning of this mess.
and that worked
I find that if i play around with something long enough everything works out in the end.
I'll be buggered if i know why it worked or what i did but I don't care
IT WORKS
Perfect end to a perfect day
DRINKS ALL ROUND :drunk:

1. Edit the system registry using the regedit utility. Remove the following keys under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\":
* BG2Main.exe
* bg2ep202.exe
2. Remove the following keys under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\":
* English: {B8C3B479-1716-11D5-968A-0050BA84F5F7}
* French: {43D4C77E-4339-11D5-96E7-0050BA84F5F7}
* German: {5B09F344-4406-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7}
* Italian: {C3817924-440B-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7}
* Spanish: {68F40945-449D-11D5-96E9-0050BA84F5F7}
3. Go to your Program Files directory and find the hidden directory "InstallShield Installation Information" and delete the directories labeled:
* English: {8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47} and {B8C3B479-1716-11D5-968A-0050BA84F5F7}
* French: {43D4C77E-4339-11D5-96E7-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47}
* German: {5B09F344-4406-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47}
* Italian: {C3817924-440B-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47}
* Spanish: {68F40945-449D-11D5-96E9-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47}
4. Manually delete all the files and directories created by the previous installation attempts (this should return the system to its state before the original installation attempt) and try again to install from the CD.

I tried the Baldur's Gate and TOTSC double pack off of amazon but there is a bug in it.
when trying to enter some places on the world map it asks for a CD that you don't have (unless you have all 5 discs from the original release)
it's like they never changed it from the original.
it asks for disc 3 when you try to enter nashkel (sp?) but you only have 2 discs.
I got in a real pissy so i hunted on ebay until i found a BG1 and TOTSC that wasn't a double pack.
I never got round to returning the double pack i bought so that was a waste of £20 that i shall never get back. :bash:
moral of this story: don't procrastinate.
