I always wondered why Imoen had advanced to Level 13 when you free her from Spellhold.
Of course the reason is game-balancing, but what story-explanation could be used for this?

well you see, because she had the new experience of being insane. And while she was there she spent time with other mages and had a chance to learn their ways. Or if you want i can come up with a huge story for you... hopefully not. Also, the bhaal taint within was awakened, so that could have made her more powerful

While being tortured, she learned more about what drives her, her limits, her fears, her origins. She would have fought her own demons(this is meant in a fairly literal sense since this is FR we are talking about here) as an aspect of her fears and problems. That would be enough for such a person(if they survived) to learn alot about themselves.I always wondered why Imoen had advanced to Level 13 when you free her from Spellhold.

that, or the explosion that freed her left a few hundred enemies with one hp so she could gain on the way to your cell.
