Sometime I am SO smart I amaze even myself!

This GENERALY happens because I am SO stupid in Other areas...

Anyway, awhile back I took (and flunked out of...) a Visual Basic/Web Design course. While there, I learned that there was a Program that did much of the "Nuts and Bolts Programming" end of things for webpages. It was called Dreamweaver and it IS pretty neat.

What I am thinking of is for some bright boys and girl to come up with an equally painless way to make NPC characters, Areas, simple quests and such.

Y'know... maybe a point/add interface that has the programming done as You (the modder) add things. That way the modder could stick with the more CREATIVE end of things and let the Program do the zillion and one "If one tilde is outa place I will crash your game forever and ever amen" coding. :bash: :bash: :bash:

Am I the only one who's ever thought of this? What would be involved???

They say the world is going to Hell.

They are wrong.

The world IS Hell! Always has been, always will be; except perhaps for the five percent or so of the population who can afford differently.

And, if one must reside in Hell, it is far better to do it as a minion of the Devil than as a member of the damned.

Well, tools like WeiDU are essentially this. :)

I doubt that anything will ever be able to do a sort of "type in all your dialogues here and it will code them for you" or a "describe your cutscene and watch it code itself in" thing. I do not think that it is possible. If I am wrong, then someone please make it! :D

Minotaur, it's called Aurora Toolset. You can type in dialogues and place objects on the maps whichever (almost) way you want. Obviously, once you move away from the simplest level it becomes tough. It's included into NWN.

And it always buggs me when people think that writing is creative/artistic while coding is not. It's a bit... er... wrong way of looking at modding. Some of the scripts I saw were much more creative than some of the dialogue/plots.

Wes is working on a number of new commands for the next WeiDU, v161. From what I can gather, new commands will include:
  • MAKE_KEWL_MOD
  • PUBLIC_NUDITY (Mang0 Request)
  • CREATE_HACKMASTER_12
  • NPC_PWN_J00
This should simplify mod-making considerably.

Why is this Hypnotoad video so popu... ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.

Alright...alright already, it was just a thought!

It's just that I am SO new to modding and going nuts trying to learn how to (Correctly) code. I just thought this would be a nice dream.

Actually, I HAVE played around with the NWN toolset, but, as I am not crazy about NWN graphics, I thought something like it for the BGII style engine would be a good thing.

Just dreaming

A long time ago, there was something called ICM. It was pretty much aiming to be the IE equivalent of what the NWN toolset is now. It was, however, a complete disaster, and impossible to do anything useful with at all. The closest we have to all-in-one editing now is DLTCEP or NI, and that's all it needs to be, really.

I don't know how many people here have ever used it, but the editor that came with Starcraft was one of the best (and easiest) editors I've ever used. If someone came up with a similar program for the Infinity Engine I'd die happy :).

I't would be a dream come true :D

I remember starcraft editor and I could operate it with no problem.

The easiest editor I`ve laid my hands on was the one for Dungeon Keeper I. The funny thing is that you could also do all sorts of interesting and (relatively) complex things in it, so it was quite surprising and enjoyable.

I think such tools can be made and if I knew programming I might have started thinking about stuff like that. If not areas, but simple quests and scripts could be possible.

You aren't meant to use the WeiDU executable. You are meant to use textual files (.tp2, .d and .tra) in order to tell WeiDU_renamed.exe what to do.

Yeah, i am brand new to modding too, 2 weeks old actually, and i can almost use weidu. Check out these links:

http://www.shsforums...er&f=125&t=7219
http://www.shsforums...?showtopic=8851

these are some tutorials that are becoming very good friends, and they are right here on this sight. I know nothing about coding. Absolutely nothing, yet i understand these. mainly check out the last 1, the first two are printing versions that i selected so i could lay on my bed and read them.

Good luck

i've created a whole 10 map campaign(humans), with intro speeches (perfectly timed, of course), cutscenes (iirc) and own ai (improved insane ai). this tool was so easy to work with.
only problem was on later maps, you have to fight 3-4 insane ai teamed up. pretty much impossible if you get rushed after a few minutes with 40-50 zealots, marines and zerglings. :D

I'm sorry if this is sort of off-topic, but seeing as we're talking about Starcraft editors. I started playing Starcraft again a couple of months back, and one of the Terran missions is corrupted on my CD (which really sucked).

I tried at Starcraft forums but no one could help me. From memory it's the tenth Terran mission, "The Hammer Falls".

I imagine that would be the name of the .scm if anyone can extract it.
It would make me really happy if someone could somehow extract this for me.
If you can, please PM me, and I'll send you an email to send the attachment.
Alternatively, host it somewhere temporarily and I can ftp if you prefer.

Huge love if anyone can figure out how to do this!! :D
