Although it's developed for the upcoming BiG World Install Guide v6, I decided to publish it already now. It is fully functionally with/without BiG World Project.

Dependent on which mods are installed the fixpack performs a lot of fixes:

1. The newest corrections not included yet in the mods
2. Bugfixing for no longer by the modders supported mods
3. Some modifications to get the mods to work together
4. Corrections to corrupted files

With this Fixpack we introduce a new technology: Now the fixpack doesn't replace existing files as before, but patches them. That has several advantages:

1. Now you can easily see what changes will be done to the original file.
2. It would be possible to make optional changes with an additional patch to the same mod.
3. No longer altered tp2-files will be shared out. Some modders make brillant modifications to existing files, but don't dare to share them, because they are afraid to get on the wrong side of a modder.
This way you don't touch the modder's file, but in a metaphorical sense you indicate the gamer how to change the files. All modifications will be done by the gamers themselves absolutely legal at home on their own computer. We only make available the needed tools. No need to worry about copyrights! That's the way how BGT works!
4. Some further changes would be possible by only change of single lines:
a. for example individual items in the item-mods could be leveled up or leveled down or be commented out to get a "best of item mods" solution within the megamod.
b. also the spwan area of some NPC could be moved, maybe out of the overpopulated Crooked Crane to another place.

Thanks!

I'm about to start a new game, I'm not trying to push you or anything but if v6 is on the horizon I'd rather wait... so do you know how far away it is now?
And does it bring back in Ascension because I don't want to play without it because I never have :-(

Thankyou!

How do I use this new tech? manually? I was getting ready to do a mega install, grabbed all the mods that I want, and then found that you folks have changed the format on me. I cannot find the tp2 files, nor the baf or bcs files to replace the damaged ones like there were in the 5.3 version. I wish to do the install MANUALLY, like in the 5.3 days. How can I do that now?

That's exactly what I was asking about in this thread:

http://www.shsforums...showtopic=36301

Most of the files are PATCH files, which I didn't know what to do with for a manual installation (installing
the mods one at a time by hand). However in the BWP 5.4 PDF file it says:

Although the whole installation is well documented, on account of his complexity and the many patches
during the installation it is nearly impossible to install this megamod by hand. Please, use instead
of this the installation files!
With BiG World Install.bat all mods can be installed automatically. You must do in the meantime several inputs.
You must run BiG World Fixpack, before you start the BiG World Install.bat!.

So if you don't have BWP 5.3 (with all the corrected TP2, BCS, ITM, etc. files) then you have to use the
automated method.

The BWP Fixpack requires your mods already unpacked in your BGII directory. BWP fixpack detects which mods are installed. When you run BWP Fixpack, faulty files in the present mods will by corrected and some changes will be done to make mods compatible with the megamod (for example you can install herbs1 and herbs2 together in one megamod); FR-ROV will be updated and much more.
Also some patches (For example res-fixer) will be installed into your BGII directory for later use during installation.

The BWP Fixpack component "cre_check" corrects the zeroed offsets in all cre files (about 420 files in nearly 50 mods) You won't really do that manually?

All these corrections MUST be done before you can begin with installation. After that, you are free to install your mods manually or with one of the installers. But beware! Also the installers make corrections at several places. These corrections are mentioned in the guide.

That's exactly what I was asking about in this thread:

Most of the files are PATCH files(they are named such as "r#aldrow.baf.patch"-> meaning that you can actually just erase the ".patch" from the end, thus gaining r#aldrow.baf file, that you need to replace the original file from the mod)

...
You must run BiG World Fixpack(the Big World Fixpack.bat), before you start the BiG World Install.bat! .

So if you don't have BWP 5.3 (with all the corrected TP2, BCS, ITM, etc. files) then you have to use the automated method.(You don't need to use the auto installer(BiG World Install.bat), just the Big World Fixpack.bat after you have un-rar'ed & un7Z'ed the mods)

Ahh, how I love pink.

&/%¤, Leonardo Watson got there first. :crying: And LW knows best, so don't delete the ".patch"...

Sorry, your answer is not right. The patch files contain only the changes that must be done to the original files and also the location inside the regarding files. The lines beginning with "-" will be replaced with the lines beginning with "+"

That can as well be one single change in a large file (the Setup-RoT.tp2.patch for example has 1 KB, the Setup-RoT.tp2 instead has 272 KB), but it can also be several changes in a small file.

I don't know if this is a BGT prob or a prob with the BigWorld. But when I get to the point where BGT is supposed to start installing, then it stalls. I see the message:

Copying 1 file
Copying 1 file
patching... etc...

then is shows

Copying 1 file

and nothing more.

I decided to let it go for a while in case it was a large file that was being copied. three and a half hours later it had not changed. Does anybody know if there is a fix for this, or is it a known problem. I am using BGT 1.6 and need to know if there is a solution. I will dup this message in the BGT install section JIC it is a BGT prob. Please help me.

Just type in here the full path to your BGI game. This is usually: C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate. Then press enter.

Thanks.. Jarrno helped me in the BGT Thread and I explained that the batch file window was froze due to Windows auto updater not fully shutting down and a root kit that was installed by SuckOff rom and Sims 2 Free Time. I am going to try a solution that Jarrno passed on to me after I get some needed sleep. Been up for almost 48 hours due to pain from a bashed knee.

Hi I've been trying to run the Big World Fixpack.bat file, and all it does is open a new window called "patch.exe" and stops. I figured it might just want me to wait, so I tried that, but after several hours nothing happens. I've already unpacked everything, and can't think of a step I could possibly be missing unless I'm supposed to install the mods before running the fixpack.bat file, which wouldn't make any sense.

So I think it's a problem. Is there a way to correct this problem, or is there a step somewhere that I didn't do?

...

Where exactly did the files ended up, were they in the unpacking folder, or were they in the game folder where the bgmain.exe is... For example for the BGT, it needs there it's setup-bgt.tp2 and the setup-bgt.exe and the BGT folder, not the BGT106 folder as that's the unpacking folder... with the BiG World Fixpack.bat and the BiG World Fixpack folder.

I unpacked all of the mod stuff into the main SoA folder, so there is a setup-(insert mod name here) file for every mod that I want to use. I unpacked the fixpack into the SoA folder as well, though besides the bat file, all the files for the fixpack are still in a "Big World Fixpack" folder. Should I empty the folder into the SoA folder?

No, you did everything correctly.

What operating system are you using?
Can you post the last bits of the log file (BiG World Debug.txt)?

Where is the BiG World Debug.txt? I can't seem to find it...

I'm using Windows Vista.

The debug file should be in your game directory.

Sorry, I don't have access to Vista. Did Microsoft change something with respect to batch file handling?
Can anyone else check if the BWP Fixpack is working on Vista? (And if not, retry outside of "Program Files"?)

Ok, I think I found a bug in the batch file...

if exist Setup-thalan.exe	Setup-thalan.exe	--language	1	--skip-at-view	--force-install-list	0 | %MTEE%

is pointing to the wrong language in both the normal and expert version. It is using the french trans. It should read

if exist Setup-thalan.exe	Setup-thalan.exe	--language	2	--skip-at-view	--force-install-list	0 | %MTEE%

To do the mod in english. This is a simple matter to load up the batchfile, use the search function, and alter one number. I just though that you should know. The proper language is referred to in the PDF, just not the batch file.

So it turns out that it just doesn't work on Vista for some reason. I tried it on an XP computer and it worked fine.

I've installed using BiG twice on Vista. No problems here.
